How to Start Making NP on a New Account

by somebun

--------

*Note: This guide is aimed at returning players- sorry newbies!

So, you've made a new account. Maybe you lost your old account after a long break, or maybe you just wanted to start fresh. Whatever the reason, you're starting from scratch, and you're probably eager to get started making NP. Most goals cost money, after all! They may seem like a faraway dream, but they may be easier to reach than you think.

You start with a mere 2,500 Neopoints, and you might have gotten a small sum from creating your first pet. Brand-new accounts can't make shops yet, but you can do a lot of the dailies. Some of the dailies were lost with the end of flash, yes, but the majority are still doable. I recommend checking out Jellyneo or The Daily Neopets for a list of quick links.

While you can't play a lot of the old flash games anymore, there are some that have been converted to the new HTML5 format. You can find them in the games room. Otherwise, you can always play flash-free games like Dice-A-Roo, Sakhmet Solitaire, Cheat!, or Snow Wars, among others. If you're really feeling like a challenge, you could even try Neoquest I or II!

Another way you can make Neopoints is by refreshing at the Money Tree. I know, it's not much, but sometimes particularly generous users donate upwards of 1,000 NP, and it adds up quickly. You can snag up to 10 items or bags of Neopoints a day if you're quick enough. You can also often find items like Dubloons, food, and books here, if you want to prepare a stock of items for your future shop.

If you have a few thousand NP to spare and are feeling lucky, you can also try spinning one of the wheels for a chance at winning more Neopoints than you spent. Don't expect to make a profit every time, though. I recommend the Wheel of Mediocrity, the Wheel of Excitement, and the Wheel of Knowledge. You might also win an item that sells for more than what you paid that you can sell in your shop later.

I would also recommend unlocking the Forgotten Shore daily early on in your Neopets adventure. You can find all nine pieces for very cheap in user shops, or you can find them at the Money Tree if you're willing to refresh for a while. You can also sometimes get a piece from the Anchor Management daily, but it would take at least nine days to get all the pieces, even if you won a new map piece every single day. I guess if you were really patient... I am not. You get a decent amount of NP for visiting the Forgotten Shore the first time, definitely more than you paid for the entire map.

You can also start using the Battledome pretty early on. If you collected your birthday cupcake by visiting your pet's lookup the day you created them, you got a decent stat boost that should be more than enough *cough* I recommend the pink one *cough*. A cheap starter weapon set is 2 Scrolls of Ultranova, a Magical Healing Potion, and a Bottled Holiday Cheer. Altogether it cost me about 8,000 NP, which will pay for itself if you sell the loot you get from battles. Start with the Chia Clown challenger at the easiest level- 10 HP- and alternate between attacking with the 2 Scrolls of Ultranova, and one scroll with the Magical Healing Potion or Bottled Holiday Cheer. You shouldn't lose with this method as long as you heal when you need to. You can get tan and red codestones from these battles, which will net you a very nice profit.

By the time your account is 24 hours old, you should have a good amount of items to start your shop. I would spend a little extra NP upgrading your shop 3 or 4 times so you can stock more items. Use the Shop Wizard in another tab to check the prices for each item (resubmit a couple of times to get the lowest price). Once you've priced your items, remember to check your Shop Till every day to see if you've sold anything. You can even check a few times a day if you're desperate for NP.

Rinse and repeat the steps above. Now that your account is 24 hours old, you can do most of the other dailies (minus Coltzan's Shrine), so make sure to take advantage of that. Sell any decent items you get in your shop. You can also sell the junk you get, but don't expect more than 5 or 10 NP from your Pile of Dung.

Keep playing every day. Remember to do Trudy's Surprise when you log on as well- you'll get a little more NP than the day before, and once you reach 25 consecutive days, you'll get the grand prize- 100,000 Neopoints! That plus what you earned in those 25 days will get you over 445,000 NP a month, so don't miss out.

Creative types can submit their art, stories, and other original content to one of the many contests or spotlights Neopets has to offer. You will often get NP or a rare item in return if you win, or at least the satisfaction of seeing your content on display for all to see- and maybe even a shiny trophy for your pet or userlookup! Don't be discouraged if you don't get in the first time. As long as you follow the rules, persistence is the key to success!

There are, of course, more advanced ways to earn NP- Food Club, the Stock Market, and restocking items from shops, to name a few. I suggest looking up guides for those, as this article doesn't cover that type of thing. I hope this guide helped you earn some early game Neopoints without too much effort. If you have any questions, feel free to Neomail me or check out one of the Recommended or Certified Fan Sites you can find on the Hub page.
