Neoquest 2 Insane Guide | Pt 4 - Haunted Woods by kittykatally
--------
While playing through Neoquest 2 I discovered some guides for the Meridell and Terror Mountain sections that had been posted in the NT but the last 3 areas aren't covered. After some trial and error through these areas without clear level and skill goals I've put together my own guides for them, enjoy!
I recommend you always travel using Hunting unless you need to retreat back to a heal spot. Don't forget to equip any new weapons/armour that are dropped by enemies/bosses as you are going along as well! You shouldn't have to use many potions now that you have Velm but if you do, use up the lowest healing potions outside of battle first, they will be pretty much useless during later battles so there is no point saving them. While battling I would suggest always targeting the enemy that will attack next, especially with Velm's Celestial Hammer (unless you need to heal, always make healing a priority). If you can pull off a few stuns the enemies will be unable to get any attacks in, which is a huge health saver. Don't sell the Father's Sword, it will be helpful to you later in the game. One final point! Be careful and check who you are attacking with, some weapons will give skills such as Rohane's Combat Focus and when that shows up on the right of the battle screen it's very easy to mistake it for Mipsy's Direct Damage and click it accidentally if you aren't paying attention, wasting a turn.
That's all I have to say for now, so let's get on with the guide!
Skills The Haunted Woods section of Neoquest 2 starts you off just outside Shadow Gulch. By this point you should be around Level 44 and your stats should look like this: Rohane: Critical Attacks 12: Devastating Impact Damage Increase 13: Swordmaster Stunning Strikes 5: Surprise Innate Magic Resistance 5: Magical Protection II Innate Melee Haste 10: Flowing Steps I Mipsy: Direct Damage 15: Obliterate Innate Melee Defense 14: Finesse II Innate Casting Haste 15: Battle Voice III Talinia: Increased Bow Damage 14: Rock Steady Multiple Targets 9: Cluster Shot Shockwave 9: Shocking Information Innate Melee Haste 14: Battle Dance II Velm: Group Healing 11: Restoration Celestial Hammer 11: Journeyman Blacksmith Innate Melee Defense 10: Nimbleness I Innate Casting Haste 11: Agile Conjuration II
As you level up you should continue building up these stats evenly and I will be periodically listing what your stats should be so you know roughly where you should be stat-wise.
Shadow Gulch Head into the Gulch to rest, stock up on potions and purchase new weapons/armour. If the damage/defence is only 1 higher than your current equipment I suggest not buying it, it's better to save your money. Equip any better weapons/armour you may have picked up on your way here and sell the rest since you no longer need them. I usually make sure I'm maxed out on all of the healing potions available to buy, pick up at least 1-2 Resurrect potions and max out Rot Potions. You should have plenty of Gold to purchase everything you need so when you're done leave the Gulch and head South then loop back around and North to the Castle.
Von Roo's Castle When you enter head forward past the pillars then head right and loop around to the room in the bottom right where the stairs are located. On this floor head to the left then loop back around to the right and up to reach Meuka. Take him down, talk to Count von Roo then head through the portal to be taken back outside then head around to the back of the castle and East. Head down then East again to reach the Cave.
Cave of Dark Things When you enter you'll see a puddle of slime, follow these puddles along until they stop then follow the cave down to reach Spider Grundo. Take him out then follow the cave left to the exit. Right now you should be at around Level 48 and your stats should be close to this: Rohane: Critical Attacks 13: Dire Strike Damage Increase 14: Bladedancer Stunning Strikes 6: Astonish Innate Magic Resistance 6: Magical Protection III Innate Melee Haste 11: Flowing Steps II Mipsy: Direct Damage 15: Obliterate Damage Shields 2: Wall of Fire Innate Melee Defense 15: Finesse III Innate Casting Haste 15: Battle Voice III Talinia: Increased Bow Damage 15: Perfect Aim Multiple Targets 10: Triple Nock Shockwave 10: Disastrous Notice Innate Melee Haste 15: Battle Dance III Velm: Group Healing 12: Alleviation Celestial Hammer 12: Master Blacksmith Innate Melee Defense 11: Nimbleness II Innate Casting Haste 12: Agile Conjuration III
You will emerge in the Haunted Woods. Head down then left, crossing over to Balthazar's Grove until you reach Balthazar then head up to the House.
Happy Fun Non-Haunted House Inside the path to the next floor is pretty straight forward. Weave you way up going right, left, right, left until you reach the stars. Work your way all the way down, right, then up and follow the path around to the next set of stairs. Head up and talk to the Brain Tree then rest up by speaking to Augur Faunt, stock up on potions and purchase new weapons/armour and sell your old ones since you no longer need them. Make sure you also buy max Eyrie Flight, and Sloth's Sloth potions and save them for the first fight against King Terask. Head up behind the Brain Tree to get back to Balthazar's Grove then head down and left to take on the Faeries. This is the only Boss fight that has multiple enemies, consisting of the Dark Faerie, Fire Faerie, Water Faerie, and Earth Faerie. They aren't any harder to beat than the regular enemies so take them down then head left, looping up and around Nox's Mountains until you reach the Fortress.
Hubrid Nox's Fortress when you enter head up and loop around the giant H to reach the stairs. The Fortress has 9 floors, each one based on a letter of Hubrid Nox's name and while that's a lot of floors, they are all quite small and easy to navigate. The U floor is even simpler, just loop down and around to the next set of stairs. Go left out of this room and wind you way down and then all the way back up, finally head right past the B to reach the stairs. Head to the stairs in the bottom left, going past the R to head up once again. When you arrive on the I floor move one space NorthWest then head up, loop around the wall and go up again to reach the stairs. Go all the way down, right, then up past the D to get to the next set of stairs. You're getting close to the end now, only a few more floors to go. Head down past the N then left and up a bit to reach the stairs. This is the O floor, so you're super close to Hubrid Nox now. Head up and loop around and down to find the last set of stairs before the final floor. You've finally made it to the last floor, floor X. Head over to the top left and take down Hubrid Nox then head through the portal to be taken back outside the Fortress. As you get close to the top of the Fortress the enemies will barely be giving you any experience so feel free to switch to Normal but don't forget to switch back to Hunting after you leave! After leaving the Fortress head down past the rocks and then right all the way to finally take on The Esophagor, the final boss in the Haunted Woods. Once he is defeated you will be transported to Faerieland. Right now you should be at around Level 52 and your stats should be close to this: Rohane: Critical Attacks 14: Catastrophic Strike Damage Increase 15: Fury of the Ages Stunning Strikes 5: Surprise Innate Magic Resistance 5: Magical Protection II Innate Melee Haste 12: Flowing Steps III Mipsy: Direct Damage 15: Obliterate Damage Shields 6: Wall of Ice Innate Melee Defense 15: Finesse III Innate Casting Haste 15: Battle Voice III Talinia: Increased Bow Damage 15: Perfect Aim Multiple Targets 11: Fourth Arrow Shockwave 11: Woeful Fortune Innate Melee Haste 15: Battle Dance III Velm: Group Healing 13: Vivification Celestial Hammer 13: Novice Goldsmith Innate Melee Defense 12: Nimbleness III Innate Casting Haste 13: Battle Voice I
Congratulations on beating the Haunted Woods section of Neoquest 2. Take a well earned break then move on to Faerieland :)
