Sirens....good or evil? by conveyance
--------
Thousands of years ago, sirens were considered evil. Especially by pirates. But this little Draik has a different story. It's about how she struggled with trying to be good for so long. She was born a regular Maraquan Draik. Draiphin was born in the cave next to hers, but they never really got along, even when Sirena was good. When the sisters transformed into humans, they went along their separate ways and had their own adventures. One day, Sirena was getting ready to transform when all of a sudden, she was struck by a pirate ship. She went down, and stayed down for what seemed like months. She finally managed to get up, but when she tried transforming into a human, she couldn't. Enraged, she went after the pirates that did this to her. The aftermath wasn't pretty. When Draphin found her, they fought. Her friend couldn't understand why Sirena had done this. And to pirates, of all things. Draiphin was furious with her, especially since her sister was always trying to be good. Why couldn't her sister see that this is who she was? She tried for so long to get Sirena to change her mind. Draiphin had seen the tragic accident from a wave she had been surfing on. She tried to get there as fast as she could afterwards, but it was too late. The accident had proven to Sirena that pirates weren't to be trusted. For years, Sirena stayed mad and conducted evil tasks. Using her voice to drown unforeseen ships and anything that she felt like. She refused to talk to Draiphin who had always tried to explain to her that it wasn't the pirates' fault, but Sirena didn't listen. She couldn't bare the sight of them and didn't want to hear what her friend had to say. Even though Draiphin had witnessed the terrible event. One day, Draiphin trapped Sirena in a cave and forced her to listen. When Draiphin finished, Sirena was still mad, but no longer at the pirates. She was mad at Draiphin, because she could still transform. Being a human was one of Sirena's favourite things to do. And even though she hadn't been a human for years, it still made Sirena angry that she couldn't do what Draiphin did. Draiphin never gave up hope for Sirena. If only she could take a step back and look objectively at the situation. But she knew that Sirena couldn't. The trauma of the ship accident had left its mark in more ways than one. While Sirena continued to down ships, to the point that her swimming grounds had been marked on maps by the sailors, she watched and hoped that her sister would be allowed to heal. One ship had gotten turned and tossed in a torrential storm, so much that the sailors were unaware that they had drifted into Sirena's Sea. She took no mercy; but directed them immediately into a rock so that the ship parted and sank into the turbulent waters. Unknown to her; they had somehow miraculously floated to the beach, and survived both the storm and the wreck. They started to drift back into consciousness... One day, Sirena had caught the attention of something floating in the water. She swam up to it and gave it a sniff. The creature, covered in seaweed, moaned. It was still alive, whatever it was. They were obviously good at swimming or it wouldn't still be alive. Sirena uncovered the creature and swam back to get a good look at what it was. Her red eyes flared with hatred as she realized what it was. However, there was something about this human that she was curious about. She nudged it awake with her nose and before she knew it, they had awoken. Confused and quiet, the human looked around, startled at what had happened. They couldn't talk, so Sirena signed to them. Reluctantly, they signed back. They had no memory and no voice. Sirena almost felt sorry for the thing. She shrugged. She signed a "One moment" to them and for a second, she disappeared. She arrived a few moments later with an old row boat and helped the human inside. She didn't know if she was talking to this human because she hadn't had a friend in so long, or if they just reminded her of Draiphin. Either way, she continued to help the human and pushed the rowboat to shore. She signed, "See you soon!" and swam off. It was so out of character for Sirena to HELP someone for a change. Especially when it came to humans. She was usually the pinnacle of destruction. This sudden urge to help confused her. It made her want to seek out Draiphin. Days later, she couldn't stop thinking about the human she had helped. She swam up to the shore where she found them, but frowned. They hadn't been there, but then Sirena smiled. A figure was walking along the shore on the other side of the beach. She eagerly swam up to them and splashed around to get their attention. She was shocked, however, that they were with one another. Her eyes widened when she realized... they were with a pirate! Although she thought she'd forgiven the ship that had done this to her, deep down she still had unfinished turmoil that swept her body. She was about to cause another storm, when they noticed her in the water. The human signed, "Stop!" And wailed. Sirena relaxed, causing the storm to appear to be nothing but a light rain. The human signed, "It's okay! They're a pirate. Like me." Sirena's mouth dropped. How had she not known this creature was the one thing she still hated the most? However, for some reason, Sirena stayed. She signed to the human explaining what happened. The human next to them exclaimed, "I remember that accident! It was the ship that malfunctioned. The pirates had nothing to do with it." they stated. Just like Draiphin had tried to tell her. She looked down, dreaded with guilt. She signed, "Sorry I got mad, but I can't transform because of that accident." The pirate looked at her with sad eyes. They signed, "I got into an accident too, but I'm not mad. If it weren't for that accident, I wouldn't have met you or my friend here." Sirena shrugged, realizing that had been true. If she'd just ignored the creature trapped in seaweed and swam away, her new friend wouldn't have been able to get help. She signed a "Thank you" to them and swam off to find Draiphin. She found Draiphin on her board near Lutari Island and swam up. Sirena signed an apology to her long-time friend and begged her to forgive Sirena. Draiphin paused for a moment and nodded, playfully pushing Sirena away with her board. The two continued to surf together, just as Draiphin longed for them to do for years. She was happy her friend finally came to her senses and would hopefully never cause another storm between them for years to come. Or so they thought... What will become of these two creatures? Will they ever be at peace without worry? The End.
