Summer Getaways for Neopians Who Aren't Sports Fans

by neogirl67890682

--------

Each year during the Month of Hiding, thousands of Neopians flock to the land of Altador to watch Neopia’s greatest athletic event of the year: the Altador Cup. Now in its 19th year, the cup boasts a robust fan base, with committed enthusiasts traveling from as far as Kreludor to get a glimpse of the action taking place in the great colosseum. For those that really like to get into the game, there are many opportunities to have fun and show team spirit, whether that be through hitting up the NC Mall to purchase team attire, playing a casual round of Shootout Showdown with a group of friends and family, or making some noise while cheering on one’s team at a Yooyuball game. And, of course, enjoying the irresistible slushies that can only be obtained from the Slushie Slinger stand. It truly is a nonstop party!

But what about Neopians that are just not that into sporting events?

Well, while one may assume that there is nothing else going on because all of Neopia is wrapped up in the cup, that is actually not the case. The Month of Hiding is still summertime, which means there are plenty of places to explore if sports just really are not your thing.

Mystery Island offers their famous Tiki Tours all summer long. Book a stay at a beachfront hotel and the Tiki Tour will pick you up so that you can enjoy a sightseeing adventure across the island. Enjoy a Mystery Island native dance performance, stop by the famous surfing beaches, and even witness the most breathtaking view of Techo Mountain. Make sure to snap some great pictures to share with your friends! You can even book an excursion through the jungle to Techo Mountain itself through your hotel if you like hiking. Alternatively, just enjoy your time relaxing on the beach, wander through the tropical food market and taste-test exciting new cuisine at the Mystery Island Kitchen, or charter a boat to have your fortune told by the world-famous Island Mystic.

Roo Island is another charming summer getaway, especially for Neopian families, since children will love spending time in the famous Game Room or Merry Go Round. Adults can enjoy a couple rounds of Dice-a-Roo or, for the night owls, some Deadly Dice instead. The whole family will love wandering through the Souvenir Village, marveling at the beautiful pieces on display in the Art Gallery, and then swinging by for a relaxing afternoon treat or quick pick-me-up at the Coffee Shop. While especially pleasant during the summer, Roo Island enjoys great weather most of the year. You may even like it so much that you find yourself checking out some listings at Roo Island Properties before heading back home!

Do those popular, bustling islands sound a bit too busy for you? Maybe you really just want to kick back and enjoy some peace and quiet? Kiko Lake could be the ideal place for you then! Rent a lakeside lodge and sunbathe on the white sands. Take a leisurely walk through the woods. Wander down the beach to Kiko Lake Treats for a bite when you get hungry. Enjoy fun carnival-style games like Kiko Pop or take a tour on the glass bottom boat if you are looking for some activities to mix in during your stay. Be sure to swing by Kiko Lake Carpentry for a souvenir to add to your Neohome before you depart!

A unique summer trip is to set sail off to Krawk Island. While this bustling little port town is not as well known for its beaches as Mystery Island is, some of them are actually quite pleasant. It has been said that you can even find buried treasure on the island’s largest beach if you are lucky! Take a walk down Wharf’s Warf and enjoy a meal at the renowned Food Club. Make sure to schedule your dining experience at a time where you can watch the competition before or afterwards! Play a round of Krawps with the locals and stop by Krawk Fashions for some memorabilia. This quirky little island definitely offers a memorable getaway!

Maraqua is beautiful year-round, but in the summer it is particularly pleasant due to the comforting warmth of the water temperatures. If you are a Neopet species that cannot breathe underwater, you will need to factor in the rental of a special underwater suit for the duration of your stay, but it is well worth it! The seashell cottages are absolutely stunning, often surrounded by gardens of multicolored seaweed. In fact, some folks visit Maraqua just to admire this beautiful seashell architecture that most of its buildings are constructed out of. You can even bring home a miniature of your own from the Collectable Sea Shells store! If you are the adventurous type, book a tour to the Ruins of Maraqua, where a guide will delve into the area’s history. You will even have the opportunity to stop by the famed Underwater Fishing hole while there, where it is said that you can capture a Giant Squid! If that sounds a bit too adventurous, stay in town and enjoy an exquisite dinner at Maraqua’s five-star restaurant, Kelp. Just be sure to book a reservation in advance!

We have talked about a lot of warm places, which are of course expected summer getaways, but have you ever wanted to visit Terror Mountain and been somewhat deterred by the harsh weather? If so, summertime is the perfect season to visit because while there is still snow on the ground, the temperatures are a bit more moderate than they are the rest of the year. In Happy Valley they actually rise to the point where you should be comfortable wearing just jeans and a sweatshirt during the day. Happy Valley is truly a charming little village to explore, boasting a year-round Christmas shop for those who can’t get enough of the most wonderful time of the year. Sample some of the best slushies you have tasted, without the lines that you would be experiencing if you were trying to get one in Altador right now, or if you prefer, stop by the Ice Cream Cart on your way to the ice skating rink in the center of town. If hiking is your thing, book a guide to the Top of the Mountain, which will take you on a journey through the Ice Caves. You will be able to enjoy the beauty of the sunlight reflecting off of the thousands of crystals there and maybe even get a glimpse of the Snowager! Don’t worry, though, as tours are only scheduled during the hours that he is sleeping. The view from the Top of the Mountain is breathtaking and you may even meet the Snow Faerie, Taelia, who is often happy to invite visitors into her home for a cup of hot cocoa.

All of these lands are a lot less mobbed by tourists during the month of Hiding compared to the months of Swimming and Relaxing, so it truly is a great time to go on a trip and avoid the crowds, which will all be in Altador this time of the year instead. So what are you waiting for? Pick up the phone and contact your local travel agency and book your Neopian summer getaway!
