Surviving in the Battledome by blacksheep227 | |
When I first started playing NeoPets, I was one of those people who went ‘Ew!
I don’t wanna battle… I wanna play games with my pets all day! Battling is,
like, SO bleah!’ My brothers, who were very enthusiastic about battling, however,
almost always came back from their battles flushed with victory. So, one day,
I decided, what the hey! Might as well go for it…but then WHAM! POW! KABOOM!
I lost! Smirking in their superiority, my brothers told me that my pet needed
to be stronger to actually be able to beat other pets. Needless to say, I was
hooked on that challenge, to actually beat someone. That day, Galaxie227 attended
her very first day in training school.
Around a month later, I figured I was ready. After scouting around for a pet
with almost the same stats, I entered the Battledome, poised and confident.
Imagine how devastated I was when I lost--again! My brothers, watching from
nearby, told me that my weapons stink, I have absolutely NO strategy and that
I don’t make full use of my abilities. So that’s why I’m writing this article,
to deliver to the rest of you Neopians the wise words of wisdom from my brothers
and also some advice from me, taken from my experience so far in the Battledome.
So... here we go!
Faerie Abilities
You need these; they will help in a battle most of the time. A good ability
list that you should have is:
1. Fiery Gaze and Diamond Dust. Of these two FREEZE abilities,
the most common is Fiery Gaze, which you can get from the Fire Faerie at level
3. You can get Diamond Dust from the Air Faerie at level 27 – 30, I’m not too
sure as I obtained this ability when my pet was at level 35.
2. Burrow and Sink. These two DEFENSE abilities, at maximum power,
will enable you to block most, if not all, of your opponent’s attacks.
3. Regeneration and Restore. I hardly ever use these HEALING
abilities, since I prefer to use scorchstones, but they are good when you have
used your scorchstone already but still need to hold out a little bit longer.
4. And, last of all, Drain Life. This ability is particularly good when
you’re opponent has TONS of hit points. Don’t even think about using it when
your opponent has only 50 hp left, it’s not worth it. Like its name suggests,
it drains some hit points from your opponent and gives it to you. How useful,
a healing and attack ability all at once! :)
And now for the weapons: You can use practically ANY weapon, most weapons’
damage depends on your strength. A hint on choosing a weapon, extremely cheap
weapons may be at that price because of that, their attacks are cheap. On the
other hand, extremely expensive items, although they don’t do much damage, are
expensive just because they are rare. Okay, you have the abilities and, I hope,
the weapons. Now, what do you do in the battle? I have broken the battle up
into three parts:
First Impressions
The first round: For this round, use your best two weapons (NOT one-use items)
OR two items that can defend against most attacks. The best ability to use in
this round is Drain Life if your opponent has a lot of hit points. If not, use
your favorite non-Faerie ability, such as Fierce/Berserk Attack or a special
pet move, unless you are positive that your opponent has a freeze ability and
is going to use it at that first round. The purpose of the first turn is to
investigate, what kind of weapons your opponent usually uses and thus, which
weapons you can use as some weapons can defend against certain types of attacks.
Full Power Ahead!
Until your opponent has about 20-50 of his hit points left, use your best two
weapons. As for the ability side, use Drain Life until the hit points drained
cannot counteract the damage inflicted on you. From that point onwards, alternate
between your favorite pet special move (my personal favorite is the Meerca Ricochet,
which can attack with SIX attack icons, which is exactly the same number of
icons as the Wand of the Air Faerie!) and Fierce/Berserk Attack. Use the Defense
and healing abilities, scorchstones, elixirs and slime potions included, as
needed. At the end of this stage, freeze your opponent.
One-use Items
Okay, you’ve frozen your opponent, now is the time to use one-use items. Most
one-use items are fantastic! However, you need to know which one use. Snowballs
stink and Battlecards? Forget about battlecards! You can use them I suppose,
but what you *really* want are Battle Muffins! Muffins rule! They may be a little
costly, but trust me; they do the job. Two Muffins coupled with Fierce/Berserk
Attack may inflict up to 30 – 80 damage. Their attacks may even reach higher
levels, depending on your pet’s strength. One word of advice, don’t use the
Battle and Jelly Muffins, they’re not so hot. But the rest of the muffins definitely
are! :)
Ta-dah! The battle is finished, Hopefully, you won! ;) Now, for some
battledome etiquette:
DO
*Arrive on time; no one likes a tardy challenger.
*Respect your opponent; some people don’t want one-use items in their battles,
respect their wishes. And calling them a sore loser isn't gonna help either.
NEVER
*Underestimate your opponent; I lost against the Mutant Chia once because I
was playing around with it and forgot to look after MY hit points.
*Target pets whose stats are much, much lower that yours.
Do keep in mind that these are merely TIPS for the battledome, not rules. If
you want rules, then lookit up in the Battledome section of NeoPets :P Be brave
and develop your own personal battle plan because I’m defintely not one of the
most strategic people in Neopia. Good luck for any future battles. Who knows,
I might see you there! :) |
