Terror Mountain
We walked on until we came to the Ski Lodge. A nice Poogle showed us to
our rooms. "How come this place is empty?" I asked.
The Poogle smiled sweetly. "Alas, Terror Mountain isn’t as popular now as it
was then. Tourists come and go, never stay. Come. I will escort you to your
rooms, and if you need anything..." the Poogle said, "just name it."
I nodded and my pets and I walked to our rooms. I lay down in the bed, thinking
about what the Poogle said.
I sighed and bit my lip. I got up out of my bed and opened the door to my pets'
room. It was exactly like mine only there were four beds. I looked at my Neopets
and sighed with relief.
They were sitting on DorthyAnne's bed, their diaries laid out, coloring books
and everything was spread out on the bed. They were talking and laughing. DorthyAnne
was writing in her diary-obviously about the trip.
They looked up at me. Santannaa smiled. Jainny got up and hugged me. The others
did the same. I rolled my eyes with irritation as Mairey said teasingly, "See,
we're OK."
"Yeah, so I see," I muttered. "Well, I'm tired. I'd better go back to sleep.
And I don't want you staying up so long OK?" I walked over to the light and
was about to turn it off when I saw Mairey looking at me. "Oh, OK Fine. But
not too late, you need your rest."
"Thanks!" Santannaa cried.
I walked over to my bed. I caught movement out of the corner of my eye. I sat
up straight in bed, staring where I had caught the movement. Nothing. Just then,
Jainny gave a scream. I leaped up and ran over to the door. I swung the door
open and saw three snarling, angry Lupes!
My Neopets were all on the bed staring at them. DorthyAnne was hurriedly writing
in her diary. A Lupe snuck up behind her. DorthyAnne gave a small shriek, and
slammed her diary shut, leaping three feet in the air.
"Hey!" Mairey cried.
A Lupe turned and looked at her. Mairey squeaked with fright. I grabbed a rock
and flung it at the Lupe as it prepared to pounce on her. "Get your sniveling
paws off her!" Santannaa cried out and just then she leaped up and hit the Lupe
The Lupe whimpered but then he attacked. DorthyAnne gave a wild cry and leaped
into the fray. The other Lupes joined in. Mairey and Jainny looked at them and
rushed forward, blocking the Lupe from helping their friend. Then they started
fighting. My Neopets bit, snapped, kicked, punched: whatever they can do. Occasionally
they got in to help their sisters out.
I glanced over my head at the retreating Lupes “OK, that’s all well. But I’m
not in a mood to leave yet.” I gestured for them to follow, and we all headed
off. We were walking for some time when finally I approached an ice mountain.
At the top was a palace. I looked up at it. “The Snow Faerie,” I said simply
and I began climbing. “Well, the Queen anyway.”
We had to stop in a cave for a while to catch our breath, and then we resumed
our climb. We finally reached the top, and I walked over to the gates. The castle
was huge, made purely of ice.
We walked in and I felt chilled, noticing that there were no windows or anything.
The ice walls lit up the castle. I looked around it. Finally, there was a soft
voice. Gloria, it has been a while.
I blinked and jumped. Gloria or Glory was my nickname. The voice continued.
I speak to you in your mind. You know the way, I assume? I nodded slowly.
I had been here many times before. Very well, but please hurry. There is
a matter I would like to discuss with you.
We all looked at each other but headed off to her chambers. When we entered,
she smiled at us. She rose slowly and handed us five fur cloaks. We put them
on quickly. Then, her face became serious and she sat back down.
The Snow Faerie nodded. “I have a quest for you. Will you accept?”
I nodded and said, “Sure!”
She took a deep breath. “I want ice sculptures for… decoration.”
We looked at her in shock. “Ice sculptures?” we all cried. DorthyAnne blinked.
“I thought you make us go get ingredients and all!”
She merely smiled. “Yes, but I need these sculptures. That is why I am so pleased
to see you. You are very talented. The drawings are on that wall over there.
If you look, you will see them. All you have to do is carve them with those
five blocks of ice, and the tools should be over there. You can carve whichever
one you want, so long as nobody does the same one.”
We nodded and grabbed the tools. The Snow Faerie stood up. “I think it best
if I leave.”
We didn’t hear her. We were too busy with our sculptures. But things were far
rougher than we expected. We had to make four suns. They were all frozen in
mid flame. One had two doves perched on the flames. Another was a phoenix, the
eyes being the sun. One was a sun, and there was an ice jewel in the center.
If you looked at it from far away, you will notice that it was an eye. Another
was a frozen sun, only there were no flames. There were cracks running all over
the globe, and through those cracks flames leaped as though the sun was emerging
from its shell of ice. The last one was the sun emerging from the calm water
of the ocean.
We had finally managed to capture some of the picture, but not enough. The
sun didn’t look frozen, or the birds didn’t look alive. There were many difficulties
and we carved them with care. After a few hours, we had only gotten done a few
flames. We spent the night there, but we were not aware of the passage of time.
It was only when the Snow Faerie came by to tell us we can sleep in her chambers,
that we were aware of how tired we were and hungry.
The Snow Faerie led us down the stairs and into her dining hall. We sat down
and we ate hungrily. After we dined, we talked with the Snow Faerie. We had
become great friends. She explained how things were in her palace. And we told
her about how things were going with us.
We headed off to bed, and as soon as we woke up we began to sculpt. We were
finally catching some life into it. The same thing happened as it did the next
day. Finally, at the end of the third day, we finished. The Snow Faerie came
and inspected them. “Perfect,” she breathed. “You have captured every detail.”
We handed it to her with shaking hands. She smiled at us and declined. “They
are for you. You will need them later on in your adventures.”
“But they’ll melt!” Santannaa complained.
The Snow Faerie smiled again. She put her fingers to her lips and blew a kiss.
There was a draft of cold air, and we shivered. Suddenly, the sculptures began
to shimmer. “I have blessed them. They can never melt nor break, not even if
the sun’s flames were to touch them.”
We looked at each other. She smiled. “I want another sculpture, however. I
want it with all six of us.”
We nodded and picked up our sculptures…and sagged under the weight. The Snow
Faerie smiled. “You will need to get those blessed by the Air Faerie. But you
must do her a favor, as you have me and she will bless it to make it as light
as air. Every faerie will help for a cost.” She looked at us, an odd expression
in her eyes.
“For a cost.”
