The Lost Soul
Staring at me was a young Egyptian girl. Why did I look this way? The Dark
Faerie had thrown in a morphing Nimmo potion, so why wasn't I a Nimmo? I turned
around to ask her. Suddenly, I heard a voice in the back of my mind. I strained
to hear it better. It said, Excellent, now she has the psychic powers of
a Nimmo. She will be easily brainwashed. She is now the same as…a NeoPet!
I can control her like I control them! It was the Dark Faerie. I could, read
minds! Fingering the gold bangles that hung on my wrist, I checked out what
some other people were thinking:
Kacheek 1: If you're happy and you know it clap you're hands…
Kacheek 2: I'm hungry.
Kacheek 3: I gotta go see a Meerca about a Lupe!
Magicgirl: She is so, different. She's in danger. I can feel it.
That last thought made me whirl around. Magicgirl could finally see my face.
She gasped. My once violet eyes were now pure black. My long strawberry blonde
hair was now shorter and again black. A white toga replaced my cute jeans, night
sky tube top and black stretch sweatshirt. My hair was kept back by a small
bejeweled headdress thing. I faced the Dark Faerie
"This is what happens when you paint a human. Last time, you nearly destroyed
Bubbleina and me with your stupid snow and now you experiment on me! Leave me
alone. I can read your mind there is no way you can win now." That was a mistake.
I shouldn't have told her, even if she already knew. The Dark Faerie smiled
evilly yet again and threw up her hand. From the ceiling emerged a bottled Water
Faerie. I saw her thoughts forming clearly in my mind. She was saying, I saw
everything, I have been locked up in that invisible panel for about two months.
The Dark Faerie used me and my powers to get to you…I will explain later. It
isn't safe here.
It was the next morning. I woke up and heard a name being called.
"Tiana! Tiana! Come on get off your lazy buttocks and help me get ready for
my visit to the Faerie Queen!" someone called. I got up slowly then fell back
down. Was this person calling me? I remember being painted, so that explains
how I look. I felt weak and confused. Where am I? I asked myself. The Dark Faerie
strode into the room. My body moved itself into a kneeling position. I felt
different. I wasn't sure why.
"It worked!" Dark Faerie said under her breath, "Come, you will help me with
my hair and makeup." I walked delicately and held myself differently than I
normally did. I shivered as my bare feet touched the icy, hard brick. The Dark Faerie seated herself at her vanity and looked at me expectantly. As if I actually
knew what to do, my hands reached for the top drawer. Inside was a tube of violet
lipstick, violet blush and eye shadow, a purple mirror and brush, and amulet.
I applied her makeup carefully, then clasped the amulet around her neck.
"Tiana, you are coming with me. I want to keep you safe. In public, refer
to me as mistress, but any other time, call me Gwendolyn." She said the last
part gently. I sank down at her feet confused. Everything inside me was fighting.
One part of me hated her; the other part wanted to serve her. I screamed and
threw her purple nail varnish against the door. The bottle shattered and the
varnish flew everywhere.
"I suppose this feeling is normal, seeing how I brainwashed you in your sleep."
Gwendolyn replied. Everything was coming back now: the kidnapping, the painting…everything.
Except for the fact that before, I had hated her. Now I didn't.
"Let's go." Gwendolyn said. There was a scratching at the door. In walked
an Anubis. She bounded over to me and licked my face.
"You can keep her. I requested you have one. Her name is Shaharaz." Gwendolyn
called over her shoulder. I stared at her, stroking Shaharaz. The puppy turned
three times and nuzzled down into my lap cozily. I laughed, then stopped. How
could this wonderful person be the one who kidnapped Magicgirl and myself? I
remembered the Water Faerie. She said she was going to explain, but when?
"I know she's not the same as a NeoPet, but now, you are a NeoPet, so to speak,
and you can't own NeoPets legally. I just thought you would like someone to
keep you company. I must leave, TA TA," she said. I sighed and picked up the
shattered varnish bottle.
"Ouch!" I screamed, as a piece pierced my fur. I blinked and the wound was
gone. No blood, no scar, scab or mark.
"You're fine I hope?" came a sweet, water-like voice.
"Yes," I said and clumsily attempted a curtsy.
"I have come to tell you about your fate and purpose. My name is Catrii, the
Water Faerie." I stopped worrying. A good faerie was here to rescue me, then
change me back to normal. Wait where was this faerie? I could hear her, but
I couldn't see her.
"Oh dear. I can't change you back. The affects on a NeoPet are permanent till
you paint them back to normal right? But there isn't a human potion or paint
brush," the Water Faerie said sadly. Tears fell silently down the now visible,
beautiful face. I sighed heavily,
"What is she going to do with me? Can you give me some of my free will back?
I want to think what I want to think, even if it means being under her control
physically. Right now, I can't hate the Dark Faerie, and it's worrying me."
I said pleadingly. I thought I was exaggerating but the Water Faerie turned
to me and said:
"I know. That is why I am working on that antidote. But this kind of poison
works slowly." I looked at her puzzled.
"The potion she used to brainwash you was a poison, and she didn't know it.
She didn't want to hurt you." She explained.
"But she didn't mind hurting my friend and my NeoPets Why am I any different?"
My lip started to tremble.
"…"
