Flutters of the Rainbow

by spuddie_hang

"Flutter, please pass the piece of pie," said Mrs. Faereyesha. A little red Aisha picked up a plastic plate of some pie and passed it to her mother. Poking at her pie and beans with her fork, Flutter sighed. It was so dreadful to be poor. Everyone at school were rich and painted and they always made fun of the colourless Flutter. Gulping down her last piece of pie and beans, she put the plate in the sink and went to her room to sleep.

The next morning, Flutter dressed up for school reluctantly. Putting on her daily school wear (A little red skirt with a red ribbon around her neck) she went out of her room and sat down to a poor breakfast of pancakes Mrs. Faereyesha might have gotten from the Money Tree.

"What's wrong pumpkin?" Mrs. Faereyesha studying Flutter with her eyes.

"Nothing. Good bye, Mum." Flutter stood up from the table and kissed her mother on the cheek.

Walking out of the her house on Soup Alley Road, Flutter started walking towards her school, Academy of the Faerie Helper, which was dedicated to the Soup Faerie. The beloved Soup Faerie. Flutter looked down the road to the big cauldron across from her school. She admired the Soup Faerie and loved her like a sister. After school Flutter would always visit the Soup Faerie and taste her new soups.

Snapping back to reality, Flutter rushed to school.

All the teachers hated her. Flutter would sleep through class because it was so quiet and it was rarely quiet at Flutter's home. She would always get in trouble and her teacher's put her down as a lazy and slouching Aisha who didn't get her work done. The other pupils hated her too. They made fun of her, excluded her from their games, and would sometimes take her things and throw it on the school roof.

Flutter hated those eight hours of school every five days a week. But she looked forward everyday after school, when she would spent about thirty minutes at the Soup Kitchen, helping the kind hearted Soup Faerie and tasting her new soups. But those thirty minutes went by fast, and she would have to go home, if you could call it a home.

Flutter's mother cared for Flutter a lot but was away at work at the Gift Shop from morning till the moon shown through the starry sky. Flutter would have to make her own snacks, wash her own clothes, and clean the whole house before her mother came home. After finishing sweeping the house, Flutter stared out the sky and watched some faerie Lupes and Gelerts fly into the sky and play around. Then another crowd of Lupes and Gelerts came, younger Gelerts and Lupes They flew with the older ones and started dancing on air. How Flutter wished to dance like that, in the air with her mother. But it was too late now. Closing the window shutters, Flutter put the broom away and took out the mop.

The next morning, Saturday, Flutter took her daily walk to Neopia Central to do some chores for her mother. Of course, being only about 9 hours old, practically a baby, Neopians would stare at the little young Aisha buying things from shops like a grown up. That morning, while in Neopia Central, Flutter decided to test her luck at the Money Tree. She went over by the Money Tree until something caught her eye. Looking up, she saw a beautiful rainbow in the sky. She got curious and decided to visit it.

Reaching the spot, she saw a lot of different pets with their owners crowding around a fountain, with paintbrushes in their hand. Flutter saw a blue Lupe jump into the pond with a starry paint brush in his mouth. The Lupe dived into the pond and then came out, starrier than ever. Wishing she was as lucky as that Lupe, Flutter walked over to the crowd and shoved her way near the fountain. Leaning over, Flutter saw thousands of colours swirl in the water. Dipping her paw in the water, she raised it out. Colourful swirls of water were on her paw. Smiling, she leaned closer to smell the rainbow water.

Suddenly, she felt someone shove her. Before she knew it, she was in the pond, wetter than a Koi in a tank. Other pets started snickering and Flutter saw some of the students from her school staring and pointing at her laughing. Sadly, Flutter jumped out of the Rainbow Pool, drenched and cold. She wished she had Faerie wings and would just flew away.

"EEP!" Flutter turned around. A baby Lenny was pointing at her back. She turned around and saw two beautiful, colourful wings. She gasped. She was a faerie. If only she was striped now. Like magic, stripes started appearing on her body. She squealed with delight. The crowd gasped at the unique colouring of the little Aisha.

Flutter smiled at them politely. As she left the crowd, she heard some shouts and turned around. The whole crowed started pushing their pets into the Rainbow Pool, hoping that the same results that happened to Flutter would happen to their pets. Laughing, Flutter walked into the Neopian Bazaar. No matter how colourful she was, she still knew she had to finish her chores for her mother.
