Little Trouble On Terror Mountain

by xarcticflamex

Asianoe (a male Speckled Aisha), Autun (his green Doglefox), and Artic (his owner) all lived harmoniously together on 120207 Soup Alley, in Neopia Central. They had a reasonable sized NeoHome that was fully furnished in Zen theme. They had a bathroom, bedroom, lounge, and kitchen. They were also planning to plant a garden. Supportive friends and neighbours surrounded them. They were a very happy little family indeed.

RIIIIIIIING! Asianoe's alarm clock sounded. He jumped out of bed as fast as he could. Autun slowly got up off his Rainbow Bean Bag Chair and stretched. Asianoe rushed to the bathroom to get a shower with Autun at his heels. The room filled with steam as the hot water rushed over him. He felt around the tub for the green bar of soap that always seems to just slip away when you need it most. Ahh… he found it. He rubbed it between his paws and then washed himself off. Autun did the same, and they got out of the tub. Asianoe brushed both of their hair with the Green Short Hair Brush. Then Asianoe and Autun trot downstairs to breakfast.

"Aria, could we please have two bowls of neocrunch cereal?" Asianoe inquired of the kitchen attendant, a Robo Chia.

"Coming right up," she stuttered in her robotic manner.

They sat down at the table as she zoomed around the kitchen gathering their breakfasts. Aria sat down two bowls on the table, filled them with cereal, and poured milk on top. "Two neocrunch," she said as she gave their food to them.

"Thanks," Asianoe said as politely as he can without laughing. Aria zoomed away into another room.

Arctic walked into the kitchen just as Aria returned to collect the empty bowls and dirty spoons. Arctic was having her usual breakfast: English Tea.

"I see you boys have risen bright and early for our trip to Terror Mountain," she said with a grin.

"Uh huh," Asianoe replied.

"Well gather your things, we'll be departing soon." Then she disappeared through the doorway.

After packing their things, Asianoe, Autun, and Arctic all met at the front door. "Let's gather our bikes so we can leave for the boat. I hope you can carry what you packed on your back!" Arctic said. Then she mounted her blue bike and started riding down the street. Asianoe threw his bag over his shoulder and jumped up upon his green bike. Autun climbed up on his back. Asianoe peddled as fast as he could so he could catch up with Arctic.

About a half an hour later they reached the Neopian Sea Port, where many boats flocked to and from the other lands in the huge world of Neopia. The three jolly travelers loaded their things onto the boat and Arctic handed a sailor their tickets.

"Aye, thank you," said the sailor Koi.

As they walked onto the main deck, Arctic explained that the sailor was from Krawk Island, a place just south of Mystery Island. Soon enough, they found their seats.

The boat was a very large one indeed. It had lounges, a restaurant, kitchen, snack bars, a pool, and more. Most of the boats were used as cruise ships for rich Neopians, or those who could afford to buy a ticket. Asianoe, Arctic, and Autun were sitting in the middle class section of the boat. There weren't a lot of Neopians traveling that day because Terror Mountain was a place that most people went to in the winter time. But right about this time of year, the snow of Terror Mountain was soft and powdery. It was perfect for beginner skiers. And that was exactly why Arctic had chosen this time of year to take Asianoe to Terror Mountain.

A few hours later, the boat docked in Happy Valley Sea Port. Everyone was so happy to get off the boat and start their vacations that they ran off the boat and almost ran over the scurvy sailor Koi.

"Neopians… they just don't have any manners these days," he muttered to himself.

Arctic, Asianoe, and Autun happily wearily gathered their things and walked off the boat. They rode their bikes to the ski lodge, where they were staying. Despite its bad reputation, the ski lodge was actually pretty nice. It had been fixed up since the big mystery and now was a thriving vacation hot spot. Asianoe had a funny feeling about staying at the ski lodge, but he just shook it off.

The bellboy took them up to their room, assisted them with bags, and then left them. They were standing in front of a great cherry wood door. Inscribed upon the door in bold gold numbers was 11. Arctic pushed the little golden key into the keyhole. Something clicked. The door opened and in front of them stood a Striped Female Shoyru. Upon seeing them, she fled with freight and flew out the window towards the ghostly cliffs of the mountain.

"Who was she?" Asianoe inquired as he tried to look as brave as possible.

"I-I-I don't know," Arctic stuttered as she looked at the spot where the Shoyru had first appeared in.

"Oh well! Let's hit the slopes!"Asianoe said. She nodded, sighed, and followed the Aisha.

After skiing peacefully for two days, Arctic, Asianoe, and Autun were just about ready to go home. They were planning to ski for the day and then head to the docks. At the docks, they would eat dinner aboard the boat heading back to Neopia Central at 5:30:30 PM NST (Neopian Standard Time). Arctic and Asianoe packed all of their belongs into their bags and went to the lobby. They checked out and headed for the ski lift.

Arctic, Asianoe, and Autun all put on their skies and pushed off towards the ski lift. As usual, Arctic whizzed ahead and Asianoe and Autun lagged behind. They were new to skiing and still found it a bit difficult. Soon enough, they caught up with Arctic at the ski lift where she was waiting for them. She nodded and they pushed forward with their poles. When the chair was directly under them, they all sat down. WHOOSH! The chair took off towards the sky. As the zoomed up the mountain, they looked at the scenery surrounding them. Tall pine trees covered in snow, rolling hills, and crooked cliffs were all about. There were runs for every type of skier there was.

Soon their stop was in sight. They readied themselves for landing and leaned forward. The three of them shot off gracefully towards an easy green circle run. Autun barked playfully and threw a snowball at Arctic and Asianoe. They laughed and dodged them as Autun went whizzing by. Then they all slowed down and caught up with each other, breathing heavily.

A few runs later, the sky began to look awfully cloudy. "Looks like we're going to get some fresh powder," Arctic said with a grin.

Asianoe looked at the sky carefully. "I hope we don't come across any whiteouts," he said with fear.

"Oh don't worry, Asianoe! Nothing bad is gonna happen!" Arctic exclaimed. Then she skied off down the hill towards a grove of tall pine trees.

Suddenly, she stopped abruptly. "Asianoe! Autun! Hurry down here as fast as you can!" Her voice was shaky and full of alarm. At the call of their names, Asianoe and Autun shot down the hill towards Arctic.

"What is it?" Asianoe asked Arctic when she was within hearing distance.

"It's the Striped Shoyru from the Ski Lodge! And she's wounded badly!" The two took off their skies and trotted over to the snowdrift by which Arctic was standing. There, lying in the snowdrift, was the same mysterious Shoyru they had seen in their lodge room a few days earlier.

"What's your name?" Arctic inquired softly of the Shoyru.

"I-I-I-I am K-K-Kaetrinity."

Kaetrinity's left wing was badly damaged. Up atop the mountain (a few hundred feet away) a snow storm was howling.

"What happened?" Arctic asked and gestured toward the Shoyru's wing.

"I-I was up t-t-t-here. I crashed into something... I couldn't see."

"You need medical care right away," Arctic declared, "At least let me make a splint for your wing."

Kaetrinity nodded and laid her head back down. Artic ripped the sleeve of her very favourite sweater and used it and a few sticks to make a splint for the Shoyru's wing.

"Asianoe, I need you to stay here with Kaetrinity while I go get help. Autun, you come with me. I'll be back as soon as I can!" Arctic said.

"That girl... she is so kind. Most people don't care about me. All they want is to catch me."

"Catch you?" Asianoe asked in confusion.

"Yes... And take me to an evil place called The Pound. They say something about a valuable colour that I bear. Is this true?"

"Well, we call the colour that you are Striped. Many people fancy that colour a lot..."

Asianoe explained to Kaetrinity the whole situation of paint brushes, pets, owners, and Neopia. She soon understood everything. "So they just want to catch me because I'm rare?"

"Exactly," he said, "which I know is very cruel."

She nodded in agreement.

Asianoe was becoming worried. Arctic and Autun had been gone for a long time and thick, white, powdery snow was swirling about them in the air.

"If we do not leave this place, we will surely be frozen in the snowstorm," Asianoe said fearfully. "We have to leave."

"Okay, but I can't fly."

"Hmm... I see. What can we do about that?"

"I know!" she exclaimed. "Use branches, your skies, and poles to make a sled!"

"Excellent idea!" he said with a grin. Quickly he set to work building a sled.

Ten minutes later, a simple sled stood in front of them. He used his skies for runners, his poles for the side, and he laid branches over the poles to make them a place to sit. "All right! Let's go!" he said bravely.

She tottered over and plopped down on top of it. Then he sat down a few inches in front of her so he could steer. He pushed off with his paw and they shot down the hill. Steering wasn't easy at first, but he soon got the hang of it. However, seeing where they were going was harder. It was snowing so hard that you couldn't see even a foot in front of you. She held on to his waist, in fear that she would fall off the sled because they were going so fast. Finally, the lodge came into view.

Hundreds of people were gathered outside the Ski Lodge calling their names. "Kaetrinity!! Asianoe!!" Their cries could plainly be heard. The hill began to get steeper, and their sled was going much faster. Kaetrinity was screaming in fright. Asianoe held on tight and they shot down to the bottom.

They heard cries of joy, worries, and happiness all around them. Arctic and paramedics came pushing through the crowd. She flung her arms around Asianoe. She was sobbing she was so happy to see him and Kaetrinity safe.

"I was so worried! They wouldn't let me come back up to get you, and--" she said.

Asianoe stopped her. "Arctic, it's okay. Everything is okay."

Suddenly, Kaetrinity fainted. All the things she had gone through had exhausted her to the point where she couldn't take it any more. The paramedics began to take her away. Arctic forgot all about Asianoe.

"Wait!! Wait!! Is she going to be okay?!?" she cried. Asianoe just stood there, the snow swirling around him.

***

One week later, Kaetrinity was released from the Happy Valley Hospital. A doctor and a nurse brought her out to leave the hospital in a wheeling bed. But as soon as she saw Arctic, Asianoe, and Autun, she flew out from underneath the covers and right over to them.

"How can I thank you for saving me?!?" she exclaimed as she hugged them all as hard as she could.

Through chokes and coughs, Asianoe said, "You can start by loosening your grip."

"Oh sorry!" she said as she let go. She began to twirl around in the air like a little ballerina.

Arctic laughed lightly.

"Ahem... Ms. Arctic?"

"Yes?"

"Can we speak to you for a moment?"

"Uh... Sure," she said with a smile.

The nurse and doctor took Arctic over into the far corner. "You see," they said, "this Shoyru was wild. There is no one to claim her. If you don't claim her, we will have to take her to the Neopian Pound in Neopia Central."

Arctic looked over at the two pets and pet pet playing happily. She sighed. "It would be a joy to have her," she said firmly.

"Okay, then just sign here," the nurse said.

Arctic scribbled her name down on the paper and walked over to the three of them.

"Hi..." she said awkwardly. She didn't know what to say to Asianoe. She had never planned on giving him a sister or brother before. What if he didn't like Kaetrinity? She had to try her best to explain this.

"Asianoe? Kaetrinity? You're now going to be brother and sister," Arctic said. Asianoe stared in shock. He was speechless. Kaetrinity screeched in delight and hugged Arctic. And with that, Arctic, Asianoe, Autun, and Kaetrinity all left the hospital as one big, happy family.
