Owning Land in Neopia Central

by peachifruit

SUBURBAN NEOPIA CENTRAL - Let's face it, we've all had an interest in NeoHome ownership one time or another, right? With articles in The Neopian Times to instruct you on time and money management, furniture shopping and floor planning found left and right, you're most probably all set. You've saved enough money, and you're ready to start building, but there's just one last question to ask yourself:

Where? With eight selections of where to own land to choose from, those who have been saving enough money probably won't be able to make a decision right away. If you still haven't decided on where to build your NeoHome, don't fret! After reviewing the pros and cons of living in each area, your decision can be made much easier.

The decisions all potential landowners have to choose from are as follows: Neopia Central, Mystery Island, The Spooky/Haunted Woods, Terror Mountain, Faerieland, Tyrannia, The Lost Desert, and Meridell. Out of all of those, the most popular seems to be Neopia Central, of course. Besides being the most affordable place to own a home, Neopia Central has many other pros as well.

About Neopia Central: Neopia Central was the first world to be discovered on Neopia, and the place where every pet and owner starts out. It's home of the famous High Street, which features all of the main shops and other important buildings in Neopia. You can also find the Rainbow Pool and Wishing Well here, as well as the Soup Kitchen.

Why Should I Build my Home Here? There are several different reasons why anyone would want to build a NeoHome in Neopia Central. First of all, it's the least expensive place to build at 1,000 NP for a plot of land. Also, as stated before, Neopia Central is basically 'where everything is'. If you're one who always loves to be near civilisation, this is the place to be. Chances are you'll probably live in a suburb, but even as quiet as it may be, expect neighbours on both sides, since Neopia Central has the highest population rate of all Neopia.

Why Shouldn't I Build my Home Here? Even though Neopia Central is a great place to live, it's still got its drawbacks. For example, if you were to live in a location close to the big city, that would make for a lot of noise in your home. Since Neopia Central is so crowded, you'll probably have quite a lot of neighbours down whichever street you live on, so expect a lot of basketballs bouncing over your fence and through your vegetable garden.

What Type of People Would Like to Build Here? Practically everyone can find something to love about this place. If you like a nice, sunny climate year-round (besides a few snowy days in winter), then this is certainly the place for you. If you're not too fond of things out of the ordinary, (examples being strange coco natives, faerie racers missing your satellite dish by an inch every morning, Chet Flash, etc., etc.,) then this is certainly the place for you.

If that's still not enough to convince you, here's what some people are saying about their homes/businesses in Neopia Central:

Food Shopkeeper:

"Oh, I love it here in Neopia Central. Nice weather, nice people--OKAY, WHO THREW THAT CHOKATO?!--Nice everything! Hey, could I interest you in an apple today?"

Ye Olde Coffee Shopkeeper

"Yeah, it's great here! I meet new, interesting people each day I open up shop. And it's never too hot or cold here--absolutely perfect coffee weather!"

Soup Faerie

"Well, maybe it does get a bit crowded here sometimes, but Neopia Central is still a good place to live, and I think that if you asked anyone else, they'd say the same."

Building a Home in Neopia Central

Perhaps after hearing all of these great comments, you're ready to build your own NeoHome in Neopia Central. If you are, you'll need to know a few things about which materials to use when building, considering Neopia Central's climate. So, if Neopia Central's the place for you, read on!

Cardboard, Straw, and Twigs: These probably aren't the best choices for any NeoHome. Even though they're cheap to buy, there's always the possibility of rain in this location, and that won't do very much to help when using these materials. A windy day could be even worse news if you build your home out of these three materials.

Bamboo: Bamboo is very sturdy, and not too expensive, so it can prove to be the perfect choice for anyone starting out when building a home anywhere, including Neopia Central. If you've decided that Mystery Island isn't the best place for you to live, you can still bring a piece of it into your home at Neopia Central! It will stand up to almost anything, so don't hesitate when you hear of a big storm coming up.

Wood: Wood is one of the more sensible choices when building a NeoHome in Neopia Central. Weather isn't a big problem when considering whether or not you want wood in your NeoHome, and it's just a step up from bamboo. Overall, wood is a great material choice considering the climate in Neopia Central.

Chocolate, White Chocolate and Jelly: These are, by far, the most ridiculous choices of building material in the history of NeoHomes! Well, you can always live that childhood fantasy of living in a palace made of sweet confectionery treats. This probably won't stand up to weather very well, so it's a better choice to be built in cool temperatures--as in your NeoHome's third or second floor, if you're planning on one. Avoid building these sweet rooms around the perimeter of your ground floor, as it can get very hot during the summer and become a bit unstable.

Stone, Marble and Brick: If you're financially well-off, building your NeoHome out of either stone, marble or bricks would be the perfect choice for you. At the relatively high prices of 800, 1,000, and 1,500 NP a room, they do add up, though. It's well worth it, however--it can stand up to any weather Neopia Central has to offer, from sunny to snowy.

Silver, Cloud, Gold, and Transparashield: Seeing as to the fact that Neopia Central doesn't have extreme weather, these are just wastes of money unless you really want something to show off to your friends. Even though cloud is very comfortable, silver and gold are very lavish choices, and transparashield can offer you a view of Neopia Central, you should wait a while until you have a couple hundred thousand NP in your bank account, if you don't already.

So, the best choices to use here would be bamboo, wood, stone, marble and brick. Interested in Neopia Central yet?

Considering all of the information reviewed here, Neopia Central is a great place to live for anyone! I live here too. Have you decided that Neopia Central is the place for you? If so, great! If not, there are still seven other choices to consider. Stay tuned for "Owning Land on Mystery Island" to discover the advantages and drawbacks that this lovely little tropical island has to offer. Until then, happy building!

Author's Note: I hope you've enjoyed the first installment of 'Owning Land in...', and it will serve only to help make your decision easier when deciding where to build your NeoHome. If you have any comments, suggestions, or anything else to share with me, be sure to drop me a line! Tchao!
