Faerie Quest: Part Two

Chosen Children

All this while in Neopia a young Aisha ran around, tagging her abominable snowball, Iori, along as she giggled whole-heartedly. An equally young Usul threw a Neoball at Hikari, her Gumdrop, which bounced it on its head and sent it back to its master, and a young Kau ran back from the Battledome, a bandage on one knee but a trophy in one hand. Another pet, a small Shoyru, came out of the magical defense shop, large and small metal shields and a spare megaton bracelet in his arms.

This Aisha was called Ashtaï7 officially, but everyone called her Ashtaï. She was a young pink girl with three snowballs in her bag, an abominable snowball behind her, and a blueberry Chia pop hanging from her mouth. Even though she was pink, her ancestors were snow Aisha's from the mountain top and she had always loved cold.

The Usul was a beige and blue girl named Millie14, commonly called Millie. She originally came from another part of Neopia, but her herd abandoned her and a group of NeoPets from Neopia central adopted her. She carried a rainbow gun in her bag and a half-finished bag of almonds next to her.

The purple Kau was called Cutiehoney7, but her unofficial name was just Cutiehoney. Daisuke, her Psymouse, was in her bag eating her snack, a slice of cheese. Cutiehoney was too happy to care, though. She rarely fought in the the Battledome, but she'd never lost. Cutiehoney had that sort of basic joy that shows a person just love's life. Life, and reading. In fact, she always had a dozen books with her.

The fourth pet was the green Shoyru, commonly called Syaoran instead of Syaoran7. Syaoran was a strong fighter, but a very weak defender. His Bloop, Miyako, slid around behind him, occasionally sticking her "tail" under her master's armpit, causing Syaoran to burst out laughing and drop all his things. He was never mad at Miyako, though. She was his best friend.

These four little pets crossed each other. Ashtaï was playing in the yard in front of the hotel, Cutiehoney was coming down that road, Syaoran was cutting in front of the video store and hotel to get home faster and Millie was playing with Hikari, which she had put in the hotel fountain. Then, they were all a few meters away from each other.

All of a sudden, the fountain erupted in more water than usual. The pets snatched up their pets (that sounded weird) and backed up several feet.

"Hello," said a soft voice. "I'm the Water Faerie, and I'm here to give you all a mission. A quest."

"What?" Ashtaï asked the Faerie She had often seen the Snow Faerie, so seeing the water Faerie wasn't so surprising. The others weren't surprised, either. Cutiehoney and Syaoran were used to seeing statues and portraits of the Warrior Faerie, and some times the Faerie herself, whereas Millie was used to seeing the Island Faerie, being from Mystery Island and all.

"The Dark and Light Faeries had yet another fight, and they want to settle it by a quest." Water sighed deeply after saying this. She still didn't like the idea.

"But-but NeoPets never came back alive from any quest!" Millie protested.

"I know. And I'm truly sorry, but I think you've all got the best chances of succeeding. And anyway, you have no choice."

She held out her hand and a small seashell appeared in it. Water looked from one pet to the other, evaluating, comparing. Finally, she handed the shell to Ashtaï.

"You'll be the leader. I think that's what's best. Now gather everything you think would be helpful and find all those items. You have four days." And with that, the Water Faerie disappeared and the fountain went back to normal. The three other pets turned to Ashtaï.

"Okay. You're the boss. What's your name? I'm Cutiehoney," the Kau asked.

"I'm Ashtaï. What are you called?" The new leader turned to the Shoyru and Usul.

"Syaoran."

"Millie."

"Right. Umm..." Ashtaï looked closely at the shell for the first time. Then she saw what it was. A list! A list engraved into the shell! "We have to get items from every part of Neopia"

The others looked at each other, then focused their attention on Ashtaï. Surely they weren't just items, were they? All three of them doubted it.

"From the frozen mountain, we have to get the Ice Sword. Then, we have to get the Ice Scimitar from the spooky woods. After that, we have to go to the island and get the Fire Sword and then, we go get the Greater Orb of the Fire Faerie from Maraqua and finally we get the Sword of Domar from the orbiting space station."

They all looked stunned. All those magical swords and wands! How were they going to get them? They were only kids. It was illogical. Surely the faeries were trying to trick them into doing something suicidal!

Syaoran sighed and looked at the list.

"Ashtaï, maybe you should put that in your bag," he suggested and the leader did, like that would make the quest go away. "Now, how about we start with the first on the list? The ice sword."

They all nodded agreement and started towards the mountain, which was barely visible with all the clouds. They soon thought about using the Korbat airways and got a fast ride. The only problem was that the Korbat airways only went up to where the clouds started getting thick. So the four kids got off the giant steel Korbat, thanked the pilot (a Korbat himself), told him to come back to that spot in one hour and started climbing up the steep mountain.
