For a long time there were only about 7 guilds, none of which had a
leader, guild ranks, message boards, all the luxuries we have now. Now
there are thousands. So many to choose from! It's no wonder that some
only have one member. Does that discribe your guild? If so, most will
suggest you join a guild. But, if you're a control freak like me, you'd
be best off starting your own. How? I've broken it down in to 3 major
steps. Plan, Do, and Aftermath.
Plan
I. First off you want an original guild. I don't recommend starting
one for a specific pet, since there are too many of those already. Faerie's
are a popular subject too. These are just my thoughts, but if you have
a great idea, knock yourself out!
II. What features will it have? Wishing Well? Contests? You need
this stuff!
III. I wouldn't try to start a guild unless you're a little (or
a lot) rich. How rich is rich? You can buy a fairly expensive (10,000
np) item without fear of going broke.
IV. Have html knowlodge. This comes in veerrrrrryyy handy not
just for guilds, but for pet pages, theme parks, and shops. Got it? Good.
On to the next step.
Do
I. Make it pretty. Try to use colors that go together nicely.
Blue and white. Lime green and white. Try to stay away from bright pinks
mixed with purple and green. The font has to be readable.
II. Names. I warn you. TRY TO KEEP ALL ' OUT OF YOUR GUILD DESCRIPTION
AND NAME. Adding a ' will add a / to your name. Ex: Scissor'/s Are Fun
Guild. Descriptions can be fixed. Names can't.
III. HTML. Try Different font types and colors! Add images! Links!
Music! Make sure there are no broken links or images.
IV. I wouldn't put too much work into this stage because there
is a large chance your guild could bomb.
Aftermath
I. Here's where the money thing comes in. Some guilds feel that
they shouldn't bribe you with a free item. There's nothing wrong with
it. I suggest giving items to your first 20 or so members, then take it
down. This will put you high on the guild lists. This will make people
see your guild easier, and they will join.
II. Expand! Say your guild is doing fine now. You may want a website
since there is a limit of 2000 characters in a guild description.
III. Advertise. I hate to advertise. But thats how it works.
Post on the message boards. People will come if you work hard.
IV. Enjoy. Thats what it's all about! These tips helped me make
a succesful guild. 71 members, maybe more if and when this gets published.
Please take a look at my guild, Confusion.
