Letting Go

by Metheprettyone

Letting go was the hardest thing she had ever done...

A small hiss was heard, a hiss of joy and happiness. A Cobrall slithered through the field looking around for his loving owner. He hissed again, waiting to see if he could hear her breathing. He rolled his eyes and slithered up to a large oak tree where he thought he heard a rustle. Then a sweet giggle. The Cobrall bounced up and down, grinning widely. A beautiful striped Wocky hopped out of the tree and hugged the Cobrall, with her white paws. The Cobrall emitted a hiss of love to MaTricie, which was responded by a purring noise. Touching her ear, she sighed realizing her favorite crystal earring was missing.

"Oh, I love you Slinky! You are the best!..hmmmm where is my earring?" she cried, as she kissed his cheek. Slinky blushed even though he was cold blooded. He tugged at her tail gently and started to slither off homewards. MaTricie followed, with an extra bounce in her step. As soon as she caught up to the menace she laid her paw in front of him. He was stubborn and gave MaTricie an impatient glare with his glossy golden eyes. She laughed, and then sprinted off saying the words "Race ya!" When she got home she was sure Slinky would have been there already. He was very fast and sure footed...maybe not sure footed since he had no feet but...never mind!

Any who, MaTricie thought Slinky might have gone off to talk to his friends in the forest so she didn't worry. Minutes went by, then hours. Soon MaTricie was frantically going through the house. Going through SeniK's room, Serina's room (Serina was very unhappy about having to stop watching NeoPassions while her room was searched) and Cloe's room but had no luck in finding her beloved Cobrall. SeniK started to help and flew across the field to see if he had gotten trapped but found nothing but Slinky's red rubber ball.

MaTricie screamed Slinky's name through the field and forest to only hear complaints from wild NeoPets and an awfully mad owner who chucked a lucky die at her! MaTricie had begun to lose hope but on her way home she found a trail. But it was a bad sign, for the trail was a trail of blood! MaTricie cried harder, hoping it wasn't Slinky's. She followed the trail, each time stopping to sob and wipe her eyes. Finally the trail came to an end where she saw a lit up cave and smelt smoke. She looked up at the sky and realised she had been out for hours and it was night already! She scampered to the side of the caves mouth when she heard a hiss and then a man's voice yelling.

"Stop hissing you cursed thing! I hate my job and I hate my life! You might get me caught you stupid good for nothing PetPet!" shouted the man in a very angry voice. The hiss sounded much like Slinky's but was much more...weak. MaTricie gasped loudly and the man suddenly rushed to the edge of the cave where she was. MaTricie screamed when she was spotted and rushed into the cave, tears streaming past her muzzle. When she entered she saw Slinky, but his tail was almost off and was bleeding quickly. She dashed to his metal cage and laid a paw on his head. A silver tear flowed off her cheek but never reached the ground. Slinky had caught it on his tongue, looking at MaTricie with sad eyes. MaTricie heard the man coming and got ready to attack with full power. She growled.

"What did you do to my pet?! You'll pay for this!" MaTricie snarled her eyes, which were once purple, turned red.

"He isn't yours anymore little Wocky. Now get out of my face before I really hurt you!" he said as he flung a stone at her.

It bounced off her nose and stung badly. She growled and started to open the cage when the man flung himself at her in rage. She screamed and scratched his face. He bellowed in agony and didn't seem to notice as MaTricie opened Slinky's cage. She looked up and saw other pet pets in cages, all looking sad and tired. She thought fast and hopped on the man’s head and started to chatter to him softly, about anything at all. Not even after 5 minutes, did the man drop to the floor in boredom, sleeping. MaTricie looked very angry with him.

"I tried to chat with him, hoping to gain his sympathy and he falls asleep!! No wonder why Ms. Woru didn't choose me for my oral book report! Why hasn't anyone told me!" she muttered, looking rather annoyed. She unlatched as many cages as she could, then got all the injured pets into a large cage. She started off home pulling the cage of injured pet pets with her with the help of the non-injured pet pets. She looked at Slinky who was on her back, passed out. She sobbed quietly.

She arrived home and slammed a blistered paw on the door. Her owner opened the door with great surprise. A few hours later all the pet pets had gone home with the help of their tags while the man was brought to the Neopian Police with the angry a SeniK. Yet Slinky was brought to a Neopian Vet, where pet pets were taken. It was three in the morning but MaTricie wasn't tired as she waited at the vet. Her eyes were red from crying and sobbing in the waiting room. A nice Usul nurse came out; her eyes were red as well. She smiled weakly at MaTricie and took her paw and brought her into the room where Slinky was. He was weak and his heartbeat was very slow. She cried and hugged Slinky for the last time. He looked at her and hissed softly. He let his tongue out and produced a small crystal earring.

MaTricie looked at Slinky, kissing his soft scaly face one more time. She took the earring, placing it back on her ear and held him as he went to sleep in her paws. For days she cried, going back to his grave several times with a wild Huggy who had become fond of her. She left flowers every day knowing that Slinky was in a better place. Maybe one day, she would meet him there...hopefully she would.

The End
