There are five quests on NeoPets. (1) Ordinary Faerie (2) Snow Faerie
(3) Brain Tree (4) Witch (5) Chef. The question is, are they worth the
NP? These are my views on each.
1) Most of the ordinary Faerie quests are very cheap and they raise a
pet statistic. You have the inconvenience of not being able to use the
Shop Wizard but cheap ones are definitely worth doing. The main drawback
is that if you have more than one pet you can't choose which one gets
the benefit of the Faerie's gratitude. You also have to be chosen to do
them and can wait days or even weeks to get one.
2) The Snow Faerie quests are usually very expensive. You get some NP
which rarely cover the cost, one of the more common snowballs and another
prize which tends to be worth nothing, such as a Quiggle key chain Only
do these if you are one of those lucky people with a super-fast connection
and able to buy faeries in the Magic Shop.
3) The Brain Tree quests involve feeding the Esophagor. The latter invariably
wants rare food which is hideously expensive. Prizes are supposed to be
worth a lot but as everyone ends up with things like garlic shields, spooky
pets or bat packs you'll never get your NP back by selling these. Conversely,
if you want one of these items, buy it in the Market Place at a fraction
of the cost of answering the Brain Tree's questions. You'll also make
a disillusioned "quester" very happy.
4) The Witch quests tend to be fairly cheap but most of the prizes are
worthless Spooky Food. On very rare occasions you'll get something which
the Esophagor wants but, usually, you'll come out poorer than when you
started. So what about these new items which were added on Feb. 11th?
Going by my own and other people's experience you're still more than likely
to end up with a continual run of worthless items . For example, my husband
has done eleven Witch quests today at a total cost of around 8000 NP.
The total value of the prizes he's received are around 1000 NP and he's
now given up.
5) The Chef's quests used to be great because at least half of them could
be done for a few hundred NP - or even under 100 NP. You could get a pet's
statistic raised at the fraction of the cost of buying a codestone. If
you bought your ingredients from the official shops the money prizes would
more than pay for your expenses and some of the items were valuable too.
Of course, there were some worthless prizes like trading cards and utility
fish but the benefits outweighed the risks. Now that the quest items have
been changed, however, nearly all the quests are horribly expensive unless
you're lucky enough to find the required items in the official shops.
You could easily run out of time waiting for things like rare chocolate
animals, blue Neggs and roast beef to come in but the alternative is spending
thousands of NP in the Marketplace. So, if you're seriously trying to
train a pet you're now better off buying a Codestone and going to the
Training School.
My advice, therefore, is to leave most quests alone unless you're incredibly
rich and don't mind losing thousands of NP in the hope of getting something
worthwhile on very rare occasions.
