Warm fuzzy mittens, bright copper kettles, brown paper
packages tied up with string...and cats. (I have a cat. She is the most
adorable little thing in the world.) But in the real world-I am speaking
of Neopia of course-my favourite things are different. Can you imagine
asking the Shop Wizard to find a 'bright copper kettle'? And, because
I like to talk, here are a few of my favourite things.
1. Codestones
You tend to find codestones on the floor a lot. They sell quickly for
lots of money. Two of them and there's another thousand NP for your bank
account. Since you can use them to make your pet better in the Battledome,
something which I'm not interested in, I don't have any use for codestones.
That means I can sell them all without worrying that I'll want them later.
2. Omelettes
Have you ever been to the Giant Omelette? It's in my bookmarks. I go there
every day to get a free omelette, and it pays off. I can't remember when
I last spent money feeding my pets. An omelette a day keeps the Bread
Master out of your wallet.
Omelettes are good because they're good for three meals.
That's one meal per pet every day, if you have three pets like me, or,
if you're like my friend leslie_83, it's enough to keep your pets satiated.
Omelettes are a great way to save NP on food, and if you get a Plain Omelette
or a Tomato Omelette you can sell it for a lot, although they also only
feed your pets three times.
3. NeggSweeper
Minesweeper is one of my favourite games, so I was overjoyed when Neopia
introduced their version, complete with special Neggs that get you more
winnings. I've got a high score in NeggSweeper which is listed on my profile.
I don't need or want a trophy; just playing the easy levels on a regular
basis really piles up. I'm playing as I write this. I'm probably playing
as you read this.
4. The
Wheel of Mediocrity
Clever! After becoming familiar with the Wheel of Excitement, the Wheel
of Mediocrity is a neat spin-off. For those of you who don't know, mediocrity
is a state of not-too-bad, not-too-good, boring, averageness. Therefore,
to complement the Wheel of Excitement we have the Wheel of Boring Averageness.
It's got less good prizes, but I win items most of the time, and Tyrannian
items sell for quite a bit. But prizes aside, it's extremely clever.
5. Tents
Go to the shop wizard. Look up "tent". Exact match, otherwise you could
end up with Tentacle Plant or something. How much are tents selling for?
200-300 NP at the cheapest. What, you wonder, do tents do that makes them
so expensive? After all, they're pretty cheap in the Magic Shop.
I'm not going to leave you hanging. Curious, I took one
of the three tents I'd gotten from the Magic Shop and examined the list
of things which I could do with it. There were of course the standards:
Donate Item, Discard Item, Put in your Shop, Put up for Auction, etc,
etc. But there were also "Use on AvalonSolarFlare", "Use on GuardianKronos",
and "Use on kiersten_28778". (Those are my pets.) How do you suppose the
tent affected AvalonSolarFlare?
*giggles insanely* It did nothing! I'm serious! *chortle*
The standard pet picture and 'close & refresh' button appeared in the
window, along with a message saying, "...Nothing Happens!" Exactly like
that. *chuckle* It was a riot. NeoPets, I suppose this was all a practical
joke of yours that you've forgotten about. It was a good one. (And I can
sell them for 200 NP in a matter of minutes!)
6. The
Bank
Now, if you have 100,000 NP, do you really want them lying around where
you can spend them all before realizing you've suddenly become penniless?
(pointless??) Of course not. When I'm on a gardening-supply spree I often
spend several hundred NP, and, since I put money in the bank as soon as
I get it, find myself not having enough money to play NeggSweeper. If
it weren't for the Bank, I'd have spent my 87,000 NP long ago.
Fortunately for me, there's the National Neopian Bank.
And they pay interest! My money isn't just sitting there; it's making
more money! And it's protected from my thoughtless spending. The Bank
is perfect.
7. Personal Shops
Shops are the ultimate moneymaker. Once upon a time, when I was new to
NeoPets (a few months ago), I thought I'd have to keep restocking my shop
the way the ones in Neopia Central restock. I know I wasn't alone. (I
didn't know about the Shop Wizard back then either.) No one's going to
visit a shop with nothing in it, and if I price my items the cheapest
in the Wizard they go quickly.
My shop is the ultimate moneymaker. Tents, codestones,
magic Battledome crystals, the Skritchy Sketchy Paint Brush, anything
I find and don't want goes in there and I get lots of NP for 'em. Shops
are among the greatest things in Neopia; well worth the 250 NP investment!
8. Paint
Brushes
These are among the coolest things in Neopia. Find a paint brush, buy
a paint brush, or sign up for offers that get you a paint brush, and you
can suddenly change your pets into pretty/cute/cool/impressive colors.
(Or, in the case of the Chia, stupid-looking colors. No, I don't like
Chias.) Two of my three pets in this account are painted. My Usul, Kiersten,
is infinitely cuter as Christmas, something I never would have thought
possible.
Of course, not all paint brushes work on all pets. But
people will pay a whole lot for them anyway. That means that if you can't
use a paint brush, you can sell it and put the proceeds into your Fire,
Fire, Your Pants On Fire Paint Brush fund.
9. Neopoints
Have you noticed a pattern in my previous favourite things? All of them
are profitable in one way or another. Although many, such as Paint Brushes
and Tents, have other reasons why they're among my favourite things, things
like the Bank are great solely because they make me money. Neopoints are
great, especially when you build up a large amount of them. I had 100,000
in the Bank for a while (until I bought a morphing potion, a paint brush,
and the entire secret laboratory map) and it felt very good.
10. My Pets
You knew this was coming, right? If not, I'm surprised. What would be
the point of making lots of my favourite Thing #9 with favourite Things
#1-8 if I just planned to hoard it all? None, of course. I save up the
money so that I can pamper my pets. They get NeoHome rooms, PetPets, painted,
read to, played with, just about everything. Let me introduce them to
you.
GuardianKronos
Kronos was my first ever pet. A dignified green Lupe, his intelligence
is very high and he likes it that way. I waste lots of money finding books
he hasn't read yet. He'll always have a very special place among my pets
(including those in my other accounts, sailorptah0 through sailorptah9)
and I never want him to change. That's why I haven't painted him yet.
He has a PetPet though, and a NeoHome room. He's the smartest of my pets.
kiersten_28778
Kiersten is a cute Usul who I adopted from the Pound. She was blue when
I got her, and so adorable that from the moment I went to the Pound I
was sure I wanted an Usul. She has a Greeble and a chocolate NeoHome room.
Kiersten is an airhead, blonde at heart (and with yellow fur since I painted
her Christmas), and loves Usuki dolls. I'm trying to collect her the whole
set.
AvalonSolarFlare
I was lucky to get a pet with a normal name from the Pound, but Avalon
is so much more than name. She's an intelligent Peophin who used to be
yellow, or rather orange, but I painted her Halloween. Now she has a stylish
black cape and hat. I've planned to get Avalon a Faerie PetPet for a while
but never gotten around to it, and in the meantime she has a Conehead.
Avalon is very quiet but very nice.
You see why I love my pets? They're the only one of my
favourite things that can't be measured in Neopoints My pets are wonderful
individuals and I love them all more than anything. And those, ladies
and gentlemen, are a few of my favourite things.
