The Top 6 Pirate Crosspaints

by newenglandquizzer

--------

The Pirate Paint Brush. At one time, this was one of the most coveted items in Neopia, as popular and expensive as the Plushie or Faerie brushes. Of course, nowadays, with the revamping of Krawk Island and a steady source of the brush and accompanying Morphing Potions from some pirate-y dailies, the Pirate Paint Brush has lost its golden status.

But that just means that the accompanying eyepatches, peg legs, tattoos, tattered vests, and pantaloons that come from painting a Neopet Pirate are very, very easy to get.

There are few paint brushes with as much awesome clothing as the Pirate Paint Brush. Every Neopet species has some unique Pirate pieces. And that means that Pirate is a very affordable and rewarding colour to use in crosspainting.

Crosspaints have been popular ever since conversion in 2007. Crosspainting is the practice of painting a Neopet first one colour to get the paint brush clothing, then painting it a new base colour and letting it wear the clothes from the first colour. A crosspainted Neopet can look very unique wearing paint brush clothing on a different base colour. In the case of this article, we’re talking about painting a Neopet Pirate–or using a specific Pirate Morphing Potion on it–and then re-painting it a second colour and letting it wear the Pirate clothing.

There wouldn’t be time to go over every lovely combination of Pirate with every species and colour. That’s hundreds of options! And of course there are also some stand-outs that have only one possible combination, such as pairing Pirate clothing with an MSP Poogle or Mallow Grundo. So today, we’re going to look at 6 types of base colours that–as a whole–look great with Pirate clothing, and are available for all or at least quite a few species.

      1. Pirate/Plushie crosspaints

The first crosspaint we’ll look at has been popular ever since conversion in 2007–Plushie Neopets wearing Pirate clothing. The adorable, squishy look of a Plushie juxtaposed with the jaunty clothing of the Pirate Paint Brush is a fun one. The combination has plenty of character potential: a brave little plush toy who has set out on the high seas in search of adventure? A rough-and-tumble plush who has known only the life of a sailor and never the love of a child that all plushies deserve? The stitching says “cute” and the eyepatch says “tough.” No wonder it’s been popular for the past 15 years!

      2. Pirate/White, Pirate/Shadow crosspaints

Two parts of the same story, Pirate combined with either White or Shadow has great potential as well. Everyone has heard that both white and black go with everything, so it should come as no surprise that White and Shadow Neopets can easily wear Pirate clothing and look great! White and Shadow provide blank slates for customization–there’s no clashing colours, so instead of the base colour providing the focus of the customization, the eye can focus on a central article of clothing, a held item, or even the background. This can make the Pirate clothing and the other accompanying wearables really shine.

      3. Pirate/Elderly crosspaints

The addition of the Elderly colour to Neopia caused a stir in the customization scene. Suddenly, we could actually show characters that were grizzled, wise, bent with age. And who doesn’t love a salt-and-pepper Pirate? Maybe you want to show the greying old captain of the vessel, or the retired sailor past her prime. The salty sea weathers anyone who dedicates their life to her, and that’s easy to show effectively with an Elderly base wearing Pirate clothes. If you’re wondering what customizers did before Elderly to show that Neopet was old, we used Grey! While some Grey pets look just plain heartbroken, others could be customized pretty effectively to look old.

      4. Pirate/Candy, Pirate/Chocolate crosspaints

A whimsical combination, combining Pirate clothing with a base of either Candy or Chocolate is a flight of pure fancy. Charming, delicate, and delicious, this is one for the customizers who want some sugary fun. TNT has provided us with huge amounts of sweet clothing items, especially when Neocash clothing is taken into account. Making a Pirate/Candy or Pirate/Chocolate crosspaint will come with no shortage of options to tell a visual story. Plus, it’s just! So! Cute!

      5. Pirate/Island crosspaints

If your Pirate frequents the coastline, then a Pirate/Island crosspaint might be for you. An Island base with Pirate clothes really leans into one aspect of pirate fantasy–enjoying the tropical life! If you want a sailor who comes ashore on Mystery Island for smoothies served in a coconut shell and a gab with the Tombola Man, look no further! Island Neopets have a lot of patterns on their bodies and multiple colours to work with–mostly tan, white, and green–so this one can be a little more challenging than the simplicity of the Pirate/White pets. But hopefully it’s a challenge you’re willing to take up!

      6. Pirate/Magma crosspaints

Here’s something I would encourage anyone to do: try your favourite paint brush clothing on a Magma pet. Any paint brush clothing, not just Pirate! Magma is a dynamic and unique colour, and it looks great with many combinations! Pirate included. If you want to customize a dark and stormy night, then a Magma/Pirate crosspaint will really stand out in the middle of it. Glowing eyes and flickering flames stand out from intricately carved bodies of dark, foreboding molten rock. Just remember not to pound your Magma if you need to swap accounts! It will automatically turn Red when it hits the pound. Use a safe transfer instead!

You’ve taken a look at 6 of the best crosspaints with Pirate Paint Brush clothing. Of course, I cheated a little and classed Candy and Chocolate, White and Shadow together, but the colours are great for all the same reasons so I think you’ll forgive me!

Now that you’ve gotten some ideas, go buy a Pirate Paint Brush or a few Pirate Morphing Potions and try out some of your own! There are some wonderful combinations even outside of what this article touched on. Add the earrings of a Pirate to a Royal custom. Put a torn-up Pirate shirt on your Zombie. Or even turn the crosspaint around and put other paint brush clothing on a Pirate base! Crosspaiting is a dynamic and creative medium and you have endless possibilities!
