Quote of the Week
A short but stout fir tree had been wedged into a corner and decorated with popcorn chains and twinkling faerie lights that cast rainbows on the walls. On the mantel sat an effigy of a Terror Mountain Petpet with pointed green ears and a red cap. The doll’s too-cute face made Suhel recoil in unease, as if it knew something she didn’t and it was being smug.
How Not to Attach the Pebble: A Guide from Experience
The Advent Calendar is one of the most anticipated events in Neopia. This year Neopians knew Day 7 would be special. The line to the Advent Calendar stretched all the way around the frozen lake as pets camped out to have the first chance at some new goodies. As the clock struck midnight a wave of excitement flew through the crowd. What was the prize? None other than our new friend and little fella, the Pebble. His small smile instantly charmed Neopia. I even hear the Snowager cracked open an eye to see what all the fuss was about before sneaking a few into his hoard for safekeeping. The Pebble is a Petpetpet. For those who don’t know, Petpetpets like to attach themselves to a Petpet they trust to take care of them. How do you get the Pebble to attach? Well, I’m glad you asked. Because I can tell you from experience, what not to do (and what eventually worked) to make your little guy comfortable enough to join you on your adventures. The Lab Ray Our first stop after the Advent Calendar was the lab ray, which in hindsight might not have been the best introduction to Neopia. Arabica Bean the Wocky desperately wants to become burlap to match her favourite coffee bags so we make sure to swing by every day. Even though Arabica knows what’s coming, the lab ray is still pretty scary. To help calm her nerves, she chatted away to the Pebble about how cool the lab ray was. When it was time to zap, the Pebble excitedly peaked out only to catch a blinding flash of light as he narrowly missed being zapped himself! |
12 Books To Read Your Baby Neopet This Holiday Season
Brought to by the Neopian Book Award Association The holiday season is upon us, and there is no better gift for your Baby Neopet than the gift of knowledge. Science shows that it’s never too early to start reading--in fact, Neopets who have their owners read to them at an early age have a stronger vocabulary in their early years and go on to have a higher intelligence later on in life. Many Brightvale scholars link their love of learning to reading books in their earliest years. We at the Neopian Book Award Association have compiled a list of age-appropriate books for our youngest readers. We made sure to cover a variety of age groups, represent as many species as possible, and have a mix of stories with books aimed at learning and promoting growth. We also took price into consideration and omitted any titles with values over 500,000. “My hope is to inspire a new generation of Neopets to fall in love with reading,” says Armin Beaucoup, Neopian Book Association President. “Books introduce us to new people, new places, and new ideas. They broaden our horizons and teach us things we would not otherwise imagine. Baby Neopets have minds akin to blank canvas. How they take shape depends on how we paint them. Reading is the best way to cultivate a deep, rich, and expressive canvas with our Babies. It's with this in mind that we present our recommendations.” 1. "The Emerald Deep" by parody_ham Snow. How quaint a sight. How it glows in the light of the full moon. In my arms, a bundle of blankets stirs and a little face, that of a bleary-eyed Baby Eyrie, pokes up as if to question the fuss around him. Why his mother sang such a haunting tune, or his father surrounded them with a ring of makeshift candles. We decorated a juniper tree with ornaments made of hardtack, red berries, and garlands of moss—such, my partner, Mariana, informed me, was a holiday tradition of Meridell. What they called “The Day of Giving.” We of the Citadel called it the Day of Darkness. Mariana, the Moon’s Rising. A time of reflection, of hope, of new beginnings. Setarian’s first of many, or so we wished. Looking back, it’s fitting that I met Mariana during the Month of Collecting. Fall colours—something I had not experienced until the Great War—swirled around me like things possessed. Aimlessly wandering, fallen from their tree on high to the dusty ground below. I felt their sorrow, knowing that I, too, could never find comfort from the branches above me. A Darigan, fallen. Leaving my family, my friends, and my life behind, for the hope that isolation could bring me peace of mind. Knowing full well that if I returned there, I would be branded one of Kass’ defectors, one of the thorns he had sworn to pluck from the vine. |
"Warmth" by annananana “Oof, this is tough work. I’m a seamstress, not a lumberjack.” “It’d go faster if you’d let me help!” “Sorry, Zou, but I trust you with an axe about as far as I can throw you.” “Hey! I’m gonna be a Battledome Champion! I can use an axe!” Lifting a paw, Velserica wipes at her plush brow. Her sister’s protests fall mostly on deaf ears as she readies the tool in her grasp and swings it down once again, splitting another log in half. Usually, this task for the Winter Celebrations falls to their brother, but since he’s across the planet for the holidays, she’s picking up the slack. She’s just never realized how much of a workout chopping wood is before now. Her brother deserves more praise for being able to effortlessly knock the task out in such a short time. “Are you listening, Vel?!” Ah, right. “Yes, yes. You’re a super tough future Battledome Champion–” “Don’t patronize me!” “–but I’m still not giving you an axe.” “Uhhhhhhgh!” A smirk splits her lips. Zouji really is growing up so fast, but that whiny kid is still very present and alive within her. It’s almost a little comforting. Almost. “One more log should do it. Then you can show me just how strong your lessons at the Swashbuckling Academy are making you by helping me get these inside,” Velserica soothes with an undertone of snark that only an... |
"I'll Be Home for Christmas" by citybound To the returning owners of Neopia, and the pets who waited. ~~~ Pyland winced at the surprisingly bright morning light reflecting off the fresh dusting snow as he padded out into the garden of his family’s Neohome. As his eyes adjusted, he noticed his sister perched on the bench, having returned from her pre-dawn Battledome training session at the Mystery Island Training School. “Mornin’, Lenz. Looks like we got our first snow of the season.” The Draik’s voice briefly stirred Lenzi from her sunrise trance. She vaguely nodded in her brother’s direction before returning her glassy stare back out to the glistening forest surrounding the Faerieland Crater and the snow-capped towers of Faerie City beyond. She took a long sip of her warm mug of borovan and patted the open seat beside her. Pyland slumped onto the other half of the Xweetok’s bench, careful to not accidentally pin her gossamer wings under his spiny tail or knock over her rusty training sword. The pair sat in a brief moment of melancholy. Their breath crystalized before them in the crisp air. Eventually, Lenzi spoke. “It’s the First of Celebrating. Advent Calendar starts today.” She sighed. “Leah always loved this time of year. Did you know she almost painted me Christmas once? She worked dozens of shifts at the Igloo Garage Sale trying to... |
