Battle for Meridell FAQ

When can I play Location cards?

Unless they say otherwise, you can only play a Location card on the main part of your own turn when nothing else is happening. This means it has to be after you've drawn your card for the turn, untapped your Neopets, and flipped over your new basic Neopet, and there can't be a contest or anything else happening at the time.

If I have more than one Plushie in my bank, do I get the bonus for each of them?

Yes. Plushie effects (and any other cards that give bonuses like that) are cumulative.

When do Heroes get discarded from play?

Your Heroes are only discarded from play at the end of each of your own turns. If you manage to get one in play on your opponent's turn, you get to keep it until the end of your next turn. It will untap when you untap your tapped cards and you can use it as normal.

Can Heroes tap to do things, like move or play Equipment? Do they count as a Neopet of their Faerie type?

No. Heroes do not count as Neopets (even though many of them look like Neopets). They can't tap to move, and they can't tap to play Equipment (though they can get Equipment attached to them). Heroes can only start and join contests.

If something tells me to put a Hero into play, do I need to tap a Neopet or meet the Hero's Faerie requirements?

No. You only need to follow "to play this" text if you are playing the card normally. Putting a card somewhere because you are following the instructions of another card is different than playing it normally.

There are some cards that do things when I roll a 1 in a contest. If I roll a 1, and then have to reroll for that contest (because my opponent and I are tied or because an effect tells me to), did rolling that 1 count?

No. Cards that care if you roll a certain number only look at the die roll that actually decided who won the contest. Rolls before rerolls don't count.

If a something tells a Neopet to move, does it need to tap?

No. Doing something because you are following a card's instructions is different than playing or using an ability of a card normally. You just do exactly what the effect tells you to do, no more and no less.

Darigan Usul
Neopet | Experienced Usul | Dark Earth
When you win a contest this Neopet is in by rolling a 6, you may return an Item from your discard pile to your hand.

I played an Item in a contest with Darigan Usul, then won that contest by rolling a 6. Can I return the Item I played in that contest to my hand?

Yes. You use effects that happen "when you win a contest" at the very end of the contest. By then, any Items played in that contest have been discarded.

Dark Nova
Item | Dark
To play this in a contest, you need a Dark Neopet.
When you play this in a contest, the Item your opponent plays does nothing and is discarded.

What if my opponent and I both play Dark Nova in a contest?

They will both do nothing and get discarded.

Draik Sentinel
Neopet | Experienced Draik | Fire
When this Neopet is in a contest on your opponent's turn, you may look at the Item your opponent plays before you play yours.

When my opponent plays an Item against Draik Sentinel, does its effect go off before I play my Item or after?

Your opponent's Item will wait to do anything until after you choose what Item you are playing. You just get to know what's coming.

Fall of Jeran
Something Has Happened | Dark
To play this, you need a Dark Neopet.
Play this card when your opponent plays a Hero. That Hero does nothing and is discarded. (If your opponent had to tap a Neopet or do anything else to play it, those things aren't undone.)

Can Fall of Jeran stop a Hero from coming into play by an effect such as Defenders of Meridell?

No. Fall of Jeran can only stop Heroes that are played normally.

Hall of Paintings
Location | Dark
To play this, you need a Dark Neopet.
Play this only in the intelligence arena.
When a player banks a card for winning a contest here, his or her opponent chooses a card from his or her hand and discards it.

Whose hand does the discarded card come from?

The opponent of the player who banked a card.

King Skarl
Hero | Skeith | Dark Earth
To play this, tap one of your Dark or Earth Neopets.
When you play this card, you may choose a Food in your opponent's bank and discard it. Before each of your turns, if you have any Skarl's Personal Guards in play, choose one of them. It doesn't untap this turn.

Skarl's Personal Guard
Neopet | Experienced Skeith | Dark
At the end of each of your turns, if you have any King Skarls in play, choose one of them. It stays in play instead of being discarded.

How do multiple King Skarls and Skarl's Personal Guards work?

If you have two King Skarls and only one Skarl's Personal guard in play at the end of your turn, the Guard will only be able to save one of the Kings and the other will get discarded.

But if you have two Guards and two Kings, both Kings are safe. Before your turn, if you have two Guards and two Kings, both Kings can pick the same Guard to not untap, so you'd get to untap the other Guard.

Meerca Catapult
Neopet | Experienced Meerca | Air
You may play an additional Item during contests this Neopet is in.

Meerca Catapult lets me play more than one Item in a contest. What happens if there is an effect that happens to "the" Item I played?

The effect will happen to each of the Items you played.

Can I play an Item, see if my opponent plays an Item, then play another Item?

No. If you choose to play more than one Item, you have to play them all at the same time.

If I have two Meerca Catapults in the same contest, can I play 3 Items?

Yes.

Mortog
Equipment | Petpet | Water
To play this, tap one of your Water Neopets.
Before each of your turns, if this Petpet is attached to one of your Neopets or Heroes, you may attach it to another one.

Before my turn, how many times can I move Mortog from one Neopet or Hero to another?

Just once per turn.

Quiggle Runner
Neopet | Experienced Quiggle | Water
Whenever you start a contest on your turn, you may move this Neopet to that arena. If you do, it joins the contest.

Can Quiggle Runner join the contest even if it's tapped?

Yes, because the card says it does.

Stone Soup
Item | Food Soup | Dark
To play this in a contest, you need a Dark Neopet.
When you play this card in a contest, look at your opponent's hand. Take any Food Items there. You get the stat bonuses of those cards. (They're discarded at the end of the contest.)

Do the Items I take from my opponent with Stone Soup count as being played?

No.

The Three
Something Has Happened | Dark
To play this, you need a Dark Neopet. Play this card when your opponent starts a contest against a Villain. Roll 3 dice for that Villain this contest. Use only the highest of the 3 rolls.

Does the Villain automatically win the contest if one of the rolls is a 6?

Yes.

If there's a tie, do I reroll all 3 dice for the Villain?

Yes. If there's a tie, all dice are rerolled.

Turdle
Equipment | Petpet | Water
To play this, tap one of your Water Neopets.
While this Petpet is attached to a Neopet, that Neopet can't tap to move.

I have Turdle attached to an untapped Poogle Racer, which says "As long as this Neopet is untapped, you may move it without tapping." Can I move the Poogle Racer to a new arena?

Yes. Turdle prevents the Neopet it's attached to from tapping to move. But if the Neopet or Hero it's attached to can move without tapping, Turdle's ability won't affect it.

Uni Battle Steed
Neopet | Experienced Uni | Light
When this Neopet taps to move, you may choose another Neopet or Hero in its old arena and move it to the new arena too.

Can I move my one of my opponent's Neopets or Heroes this way?

Yes.
