Return of Dr. Sloth FAQ

Lots of Neopets in this set have "tap abilities." That means they say "You may tap this Neopet" to do something. When can I tap my Neopet to use one of these abilities?

Unless they say otherwise, you can only play a "tap ability" on the main part of your own turn when nothing else is happening. This means it has to be after you've drawn your card for the turn, untapped your Neopets, and flipped over your new basic Neopet, and there can't be a contest or anything else happening at the time.

Can I use my Neopet's "tap ability" and start a contest with it on the same turn?

Probably not. You choose what to tap your Neopet for: to start a contest, to play an Equipment, to play a Something Has Happened card, to trade it in, to move it to a different arena, or to use its "tap ability." After you tap it to do one of those things, you can't tap it to do something else. However, if you have a way to untap your Neopet during your turn, then you can do something else with it.

I started a contest with one of my Neopets, then I used a card to untap it. Can I start another contest with it in the same arena?

No. You can't start more than one contest per turn in the same arena. (Keep in mind that contests against Villains are special and don't count towards your one-contest-per-arena-per-turn limit.) If you can move your Neopet to a new arena where you haven't started a contest yet, and untap it again, you can tap it to start a contest there - but that's very difficult!

I have two different cards with effects that say, "You may reroll your dice once each contest." How does that work?

Reroll effects stack up, so now you can reroll your dice up to two times each contest. First, roll your dice for the contest. If you don't like your roll, you may reroll. If you don't like that roll, you may reroll again.

There's a card in play that has a nasty effect when I roll a 1 in a contest. I rolled a 1, but then I rerolled and got a different number. Does the nasty effect happen?

No. The game only cares about the last number rolled in a contest. Rerolling means that all the rolls you made earlier don't count for any reason.

Buzz Bully (also see Cybunny Scout, Kougra Scientist, and Mutant Grundo)
Neopet | Experienced Buzz | Dark
When a strength contest starts, you may tap this Neopet to give +4 to strength. If you win the contest, untap this Neopet.

What happens if Buzz Bully is in the strength arena when I start a contest there with another Neopet?

You have a choice. You can include Buzz Bully in the contest to get its 9 strength OR you can use its "tap ability" to add +4 to strength and untap it if you win OR you can leave it out of the contest. You can't include it in the contest and use its "tap ability" too.

Cooty
Item | Petpetpet
If you win this contest and you have a Petpet in it, bank this card instead of discarding it.

I played Cooty as an Item in a contest I had a Petpet in, and I won the contest. Can I bank a card from my hand in addition to banking Cooty?

Yes. You still get your normal bank or draw for winning the contest.

Domination
Something Has Happened | Water
To play this, tap one of your Water Neopets.
Choose one of your opponent's Neopets. Untap it and take control of it. (It stays in the same arena, and it can't be traded in or replaced.) At the end of the turn, give it back to your opponent. (It stays in the arena it's in when you give it back.)

Huh?

When you play this card, you take one of your opponent's Neopets and bring it over to your side. You can pick either a tapped Neopet or an untapped Neopet, and it can be in any arena. When it's on your side, you can treat it just like one of your own Neopets! (Almost.) You can start a contest with it, move it to a new arena, use its "tap ability," or tap it to play an Equipment or a Something Has Happened card. You can't replace it with an Experienced Neopet or trade it in. If it wins a contest, you get to bank or draw a card. At the end of the turn, you give it back to your opponent. If you moved it to a new arena, it stays in that arena.

Evil Sloth Clone #177
Villain | Clone | Air
To play this, you need an Air Neopet.
When you play this card, you may choose a card in your hand and discard it to search your deck. You may take an Evil Sloth Clone #177 or an Evil Sloth Clone #238 from your deck, show it to your opponent, and put it into your hand. Then shuffle your deck. When this Villain loses a contest, untap all its rivals.

Evil Sloth Clone #177 can search for Evil Sloth Clone #238. Can Evil Sloth Clone #238 search for Evil Sloth Clone #177?

No. Evil Sloth Clone #238 can only find other Evil Sloth Clone #238 cards.

Maintenance Tunnels
Location | Dark
To play this, you need a Dark Neopet.
Players don't roll dice in contests here unless there is a tie.

What happens if we roll dice and there's still a tie?

You reroll the dice until someone wins.

Rally
Something Has Happened | Air
To play this, you need an Air Neopet.
Until the end of the turn, each of your Basic Neopets gets +3 to all stats and while untapped can move without tapping.

Does this card give +3 to only my untapped Basic Neopets?

No, it gives +3 to all of your Basic Neopets. It also helps your untapped Basic Neopets move.

Space Faerie
Hero | Faerie | Air
To play this, tap one of your Air Neopets.
When your opponent starts a contest in an arena where you have at least one Air Neopet, if this card is in your hand, you may put it into that arena. If you do, it joins the contest and you choose one of your Air Neopets in that arena. It doesn't untap on your next turn.

Do I have to tap one of my Air Neopets to put Space Faerie into an arena during my opponent's turn?

No. Putting Space Faerie into an arena this way doesn't count as playing Space Faerie. You don't have to tap an Air Neopet and your opponent can't play a card like Fall of Jeran.

During my opponent's turn, I put Space Faerie into an arena where I have both a tapped Air Neopet and an untapped Air Neopet. Do I have to choose the tapped Neopet to leave tapped on my next turn?

No. You can choose either Air Neopet. If you choose the untapped one, then it won't untap at the start of your next turn. But that's OK, because it's already untapped!

Space Faerie Token
Item | Charm | Air
To play this in a contest, you need an Air Neopet.
When you play this in a contest, you may choose one of your opponent's Faerie Heroes in the contest and take control of it. (It's still in the contest.) At the end of the contest, discard it.

This says that after I take control of my opponent's Faerie Hero, it's still in the contest. Whose side is it on?

It's on your side. You get its stats and your opponent doesn't.

Virtublaster 3000
Equipment | Weapon
To play this, tap one of your Neopets.
When this Neopet or Hero joins a contest on your opponent's turn, you may discard this Equipment. If you do, your opponent loses the contest.

I use Virtublaster 3000's ability to make my opponent lose the contest. Do we still get to play Items and roll dice?

No. The contest ends immediately.
