Curse of Maraqua FAQ

What are "taps to move" triggers?

Several cards in Curse of Maraqua wait for Neopets to tap in order to move and then do something right after that Neopet moves.

Does moving a Neopet that moves without tapping (such as Poogle Racer) affect "taps to move" triggers?

No, moving itself isn't enough. The Neopet must also tap to meet the whole requirement. (And no, you can't tap Poogle Racer while it moves just because you want to tap it.)

Does moving a Hero, rearranging Neopets, or moving a Neopet because a card tells you to affect a "taps to move" trigger?

No, the trigger is just looking for Neopets that are specifically moving (and tapping to do so) because the person who controls the Neopet is using that special action to move it.

Can moving from one arena to another trigger both "tap to move away" and "tap to move to" cards?

Yes! If the Neopet is moving from an "away" location to a "to" location you can get bonuses from each one with just the one move.

Angry Giants
Something Has Happened | Fire
To play this, tap 1 of your Fire Neopets.
Choose an Experienced Neopet. Its owner replaces it with the top card of his or her Neopet stack. Repeat this for each other Experienced Neopet (one at a time).

Does this affect both players?

Yes, if both players have Experienced Neopets, they'll each be replacing them. If only one player does, only that player will be affected.

What do I do with the replaced Neopets?

The replaced Neopets are Experienced Neopets, so they'll be put into the discard pile. The new Neopet will be tapped or untapped (to match if the Experienced one was), and any Equipment on the Experienced Neopet gets attached to the new Neopet.

Chomby Genie
Neopet | Experienced Chomby | Light
When you play this card, name 3 cards. Reveal the top 3 cards of your deck. Put each one you named into your hand and discard the rest.

Do all three cards have to match the cards I name?

No, one or two out of three is fine. You'll get any of the cards you named if they're revealed.

What happens if I name a card and I reveal two of that card?

You'll get both of them.

Everlasting Porridge
Item | Food
When you bank this card, you may bank another Everlasting Porridge from your hand.

Can I bank a third Everlasting Porridge when I bank a second Porridge?

Yes, banking the second Porridge will let you have thirds if you're holding another one.

Isca's Necklace
Equipment | Armour
To play this, tap 1 of your Neopets.
When you play this, you may exchange an Equipment from your bank with an Equipment from your discard pile.

I put Isca's Necklace on a Neopet, and now I want to exchange it with Equipment that I can't normally attach to my Neopet (such as Big, Heavy Sword). Now what?

Exchanging Equipment works a lot like replacing Neopets - just swap the two cards and don't worry about the Equipment restrictions. (Your new Neopet would keep the Big, Heavy Sword.)

Island Negg
Item | Food Negg
When you bank this card, you may discard it. If you do, reveal the top 5 cards of your deck and choose a Negg. Bank that card and put the rest in your discard pile.

If I don't reveal a Negg in the top 5 cards, can I keep my Island Negg?

No, it was already discarded before you revealed anything.

King Kelpbeard
Hero | Koi | Water
To play this, tap 1 of your Water Neopets.
When this Hero is discarded from play, you may search your deck for a Hero, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Then shuffle your deck.

Can I search for a Hero even when King Kelpbeard is discarded at the end of the turn?

Yes, you can search no matter how King Kelpbeard is discarded from play. This lets you search your deck for a Hero before your turn ends.

Can I go get any Hero when King Kelpbeard is discarded from play?

Yes, King Kelpbeard lets you search for any Hero, not just another King Kelpbeard.

New Maraqua
Location | Light Water
To play this, you need a Light or Water Neopet.
When a Neopet taps to move to this arena, its controller reveals the top card of his or her deck. If it's an Equipment or Item worth 2 points or less, he or she draws it.

Old Maraqua
Location | Dark Water
To play this, you need a Dark or Water Neopet.
When a Neopet taps to move away from this arena, its controller may search his or her deck for an Equipment or Item worth 2 points or less, reveal it, and shuffle the rest of his or her deck. Then that player puts that card on top of his or her deck.

New Maraqua and Old Maraqua seem similar, do they work together?

Yes, tapping a Neopet to move away from Old Maraqua to New Maraqua does trigger both Locations. You can use them in either order. If you use Old Maraqua, and then New Maraqua, you'll get to search for an Equipment that's worth 2 points or less and put it on top of your deck (Old Maraqua) and then reveal and draw that Equipment worth 2 points or less (New Maraqua).

Rainbow Pearl
Item
While this card is in your bank and you control Neopets of all 6 Faerie types, this card is worth 5 points.

What happens if I have a Neopet in an arena with Faerie Circle? (Faerie Circle says "Neopets here have all Faerie types.")

If you have a Neopet in an arena with Faerie Circle, Rainbow Pearl is worth 5 points.

Rotten Negg
Item | Food Negg
When you bank this card, each player chooses a Negg in his or her bank and discards it.

What happens if I bank this card and don't have any Neggs to discard?

You'll have to discard Rotten Negg. It's still a Negg (even though it's rotten). You at least have that one.

Scurvy Island
Location | Earth
To play this, you need an Earth Neopet.
During contests here, each Neopet, Hero, and Villain uses its lowest stat instead of the stat for that arena. (
The stat includes everything except Item bonuses and the die roll.)

What if my Neopet, Hero, or Villain has a 0 for the stat?

A 0 stat is still a stat. Use 0 for that arena.

Does Equipment count when determining what stat to use?

Equipment bonuses do count.

Do Items count when determining what stat to use?

No, you'll figure out what stat to use before playing Items.

Once I know what stat to use, what Items should I use?

Use Items that help that stat, the lowest one as determined by Scurvy Island. If you're in the Strength arena but your lowest stat is in Agility, use an Item that raises Agility to help you win that contest.

The Drenched
Villain | Faerie | Dark Water
To play this, you need a Dark or Water Neopet.
Neopets can't tap to move except to an arena with The Drenched.
When this Villain loses a contest, untap all its rivals.

Can I move a Neopet that moves without tapping (such as Poogle Racer) to an arena that doesn't have The Drenched in it?

Yes, The Drenched only affects Neopets that tap to move.

Underwater Discovery
Fate | Quest | Water
To play this, you need a Water Neopet.
On the turn this Quest is played, this Neopet can't tap to move.
When this Neopet taps to move to an arena, discard this Quest. This Neopet's controller may search his
or her deck for a Location and put it into that arena. Then that player shuffles his or her deck.

Which arena do I put the new Location into?

Put the new Location into the arena where Neopet just went.

Water Mote
Equipment | Armour
--
+3
+3
--
To play this, tap one of your Neopets. This Equipment gives an additional +2 to all stats while attached to a Water Neopet or Hero.

When attached to a Water Neopet or Hero, what bonuses does my Neopet get?

The +2 is additional, so Water Mote gives +2 to Strength and Intelligence and +5 to Agility and Magic while attached to a Water Neopet or Hero.
