KOUGRA DAY SPECIAL

The Little Kougra
By Panril

Languid is the little Kougra;
He cavorts with impish bounds
O'er shores that boast of colour,
Of striking sights and sounds.
O'er wavelets crafted from frothing sea
With crests of clotted cream,
Mystery Island is his playground,
But only in this dream.
Oft will he twitch and pounce
On morning Sun's quick ray
As it glosses over pawprints
On tranquil sandy bay.
His nose sniffs out juicy jungle fruit;
That ever inquisitive eye
Is firebright and easily caught
By flitting butterfly.
And should his fur be heavy with salt
Or his dewy eyes grow tired
Into the shade he lopes and settles
To seek the sleep desired.
Thither will he indulge
In long and carefree slumber
Before the Babaas in his mind
Can multiply in number.
Perchance he will dream another dream
Of some impressive exploration
Or vanquish wicked evildoer
Without hint of hesitation.
For despite visions of starlight,
This Kougra is not quite wild
And curling close nearby
Is content to be my wayward child.

The Kougra Natives
By Mithril_mithrandir

Far within lush jungle green
A band of Kougras lie;
Painted faces, gleaming spears,
Fierceness in every eye.

Swishing tails, colourful stripes:
They seem to be in wait;
Nervous shifts, an impatient twitch:
Their quarry must be late.

The sun slowly climbs and falls,
The day is getting old --
Turning tails, feet going home,
Half-sunk sun glinting on gold.

A clearing in the emerald scape
Holds row after row of shacks;
Children run, to and fro,
There are Kougra natives coming back.

The sun slips below the waves,
The Kougras crowd around --
Leaping flames scorch the sky,
While there is dancing on the ground.

Bowls of fruit brought out,
The dancing put on a pause --
Neon fruits grabbed with delight,
Devoured by Kougra jaws.

At last the fire flickers,
The night's festivities are done --
Yet the Kougras linger,
Waiting for the sun.

In the shadows of the jungle,
As the last glowing ember fades,
The Kougra natives stand alone,
Half hidden in a lifting shade...

And then, the sun begins to rise.

Lonely Skies and Kougra Eyes
By Inkita_star

Stand upon the shoreline
At noon on summer days
And greet the shy young Kougra
Who sits within the shade.

Ask him of his purpose --
To you he shall reply,
"I rest upon this rock each day
And watch the western sky.

"I'm waiting for my family,
My mama and my dad.
I know that they'll come back one day
So I don't feel so sad.

"I think of them when I'm alone --
My daddy used to say,
'You'll walk across the world one day
Someday, my son, someday.'

"The memories are faded now
And still they're out at sea
But before I have adventures,
I'd like them back with me.

"So I wait here on the shoreline
Every hour, every day
In exactly the same spot as
Where they set their sails away."

Once these words he said to me
And I, with ink and pen,
Wrote the story of his past
The tale that once had been.

And to this day he sits there,
Through rainstorms and through nights,
His hope will never falter,
Not his courage, nor his might.

So perhaps one salty morning,
A sail shall meet his eyes
And a ne'er-forgotten ship will come
As sun begins to rise.

That Kougra's just a young 'un
Yet he's got so much in store
Perhaps his wish just might come true --
To be loved forevermore.

Beware, Oh Ye Twigs
By Peanut02395

He crouches low among the grass,
As silent as a falling leaf,
With muscles quiet, bunched in mass,
He remains hidden in the heath.

Fixed upon a single prey,
Eyes of amber stare so wide,
Slowly, waiting, perhaps all day,
A tail lashes from side to side.

The perfect moment inching near,
Coiling tightly like a snake,
Whiskers bristle with no fear,
Ready ever now to break.

And there! The moment comes, it's time!
He springs forward with paws unhurt,
And pounces there among the thyme,
Upon his prey against the dirt.

The Kougra cub frolicks 'round,
Gnawing on the deadly stick,
For he's a hunter of the ground,
And yes, he finally got the trick.

Onyx Wings Ignite
By Kiba91592

Roaring night, crashing thunder
Rolling cries of death asunder
Screaming black, deadly scratches
Falling stars through unsewn patches.

One step pounds while one step thumps
Hot adrenaline quickly pumps
Closer, nearer, it arrives
Stabbing courage with venom knives.

Wings spread wide and claws extract
Slicing the earth in quiet tact
Lips curl back and white teeth shine
Mimicking all that is divine.

A hot roar pierces night air
Something is now awake; beware
Beats of dark wings vibrate now
Only does great power allow.

Goosebumps trickle up our backs
Our footsteps now stop in their tracks
Frozen with fear, locked in fright
Aware of the evil tonight.

Look up, up! Up higher; there!
Can you not see it in the air?
Rough creature of deadly dark
On its journey it now embarks.

It cannot be other than
A Kougra of Lord Darigan
Purple coat and onyx stripes
Wings of a rare dragonly type.

This beast soars through blackened night
Flames of journeying mind, ignite
And lead this beast here, today
To help celebrate Kougra Day!
