Lint's foot fell, squishing the cockroach with a sickening splat. Lint frowned.
He hated cockroaches. Sure they were bad enough seeing them from above, but
looking at them from the level the poor Fuzzle had it was horrible. The ugly
black wings, the disgusting bodies and, from his perspective, the scurrying
little legs underneath. Disgusting. Lint shuddered.
Cockroach Towers was not the best hotel in Neopia, but it was better than the
Haunted House and was the only one in the Haunted Woods. Lint couldn't imagine
sleeping in there for a night. Fluffy blue slippers shuffled past his face as
Lint scrambled onto his silver pillow and rose into the air (the hovering pillow
was given to Lint on his last birthday by the Shop Wizard as a birthday present).
The Shop Wizard, in his starry blue pajamas sat on the bed then heaved his
large feet onto the bed. The orange Fuzzle stared at him for a moment then drifted
off to sleep. But the wizard couldn't sleep. Something was bugging him. Something
must have been amiss. And since his magic enhanced the little intuition people
normally have - something was amiss. Slipping out of bed, the wizard
walked over to his dresser and changed into his regular wizard robes.
Out in the fresh air the Shop Wizard adjusted his cloak around him. Taking
a glance back at the twin towers known as Cockroach
Towers the wizard turned on his heel and walked down a trail deep into
the blackness of the night. The wind blew against the adventurers as Sythin
and Sanando sat in the basket and it flew toward Terror Mountain. Sythin glanced
left then quickly whispered to Sanando, "Do you know that Mynci to my left?
He's been staring at us for the whole trip."
"The red one?"
"No, the striped one."
"Nope, don't know him. I wonder what he wants."
"He could be a minion of the Negg Faerie."
"Well, the Faerie didn't seem to really have minions the last time we met her.
Only you after she had mutated you and he doesn't look that mutated if you ask
me."
"I guess. Still, I wonder what he wants."
The trail got darker and the Shop Wizard conjured a globe of light which he
held in his palm. Clawlike branches started to sweep toward him, but one shine
of his yellow globe in their direction and they withdrew quickly. It was really
quite simple actually, to go through the Haunted wood you merely needed to be
able to conjure a ball of Faerie dust. Only few know this, however (too bad
Brucey
didn't know this - oh well). As he continued along the trail, a sudden sense
of danger overcame the wise Jubjub. Taking a cautious guard, he dimmed his globe
and tiptoed onward toward a green light among the trees.
The Negg Faerie placed the last radioactive Negg on the ground, forming a circle
of glowing green light in the clearing. This was it. The night of the new moon.
Where more darkness was rampant than the night of the full moon. Moving to a
bush in the center of the ring of Neggs, the Negg Faerie examined it closely.
"Those foolish pets destroyed my bushes. Luckily the original bush is still
here. Every new moon it will grow more. This time I shall not be so hasty with
my precious Neggs," glancing at the sky she worriedly whispered, "It must be
midnight now. Why has it not bloomed with more Neggs?"
Two big eyes flew open. Evil lurked within the room. Sensing danger, the two
big feet hopped then flopped hurriedly along the floor and out the door.
