"Mum, I need to get a paint brush!" Leekoi the blue Kacheek whined,
looking at herself in her zen mirror. "My fur is like eight seasons ago!"
"Oh, that's great, honey!" her mum, also a blue Kacheek, said. "You're such a sweet, hard-working
pet, but we don't need our NeoHome painted right now. Maybe in a few months, okay?"
"No, mum! The paint brush is for me! I want to be painted!" Leekoi sulked.
"But you're not a house, silly... and painting yourself is totally bad for your skin."
"Ugh, mum. Do I have to explain everything to you?"
"Honey, do you know what a mess you'll make in the house with paint all over you? I'm going
to have to wrap the couch in plastic again."
"Mum, paint brushes are permanent."
"That's exactly why I don't want you on my couch. Do you know how long it took me to save up for it?
Besides, Kauvara doesn't make a couch cleaning potion yet, so a painting yourself is out of the
question. M'kay?"
Leekoi ran to her room and slammed the door. She picked up her Snorkle bank and busted it open.
A little Spyder crawled out as one Neopoint hit the floor. She sat on her bed and cried herself
to sleep...

...as the little Spyder, glowing eerily in the night, sat on her shoulder. A tiny voice came
from the little Spyder as it said in a forlorn voice, "Be careful what you wish for!" and it gently
bit the sleeping Kacheek on the ear. Leekoi swatted at the pest in her sleep, grumbling to herself
as she rubbed her sore ear, but she immediately fell back into her fitful dreams. As she slept, her
skin began to glow an eerie green...

...The next morning Leekoi found herself a beautiful shade of Cloud.
"I can't believe this!" she exclaimed with delight. As she admired
herself, she wondered what had happened last night. The bump on her
ear had disappeared, though she did feel a bit light-headed.
"Leekoi, time for breakfast!" Leekoi's mum yelled from the kitchen.
Leekoi's mum gasped.
"How many times do I have to teach you this, Leekoi? I told you, you
weren't to paint yourself!"
"But it's not my fault..," Leekoi explained the situation.
"...and when I woke up, I was like this,"
Leekoi's mum didn't approve one bit, but it didn't matter.
At school Leekoi wasn't able to concentrate. Her usually neat letters
were jagged and lopsided. During math class she couldn't remember her
times tables.
"This is just a coincidence, I'm probably just too excited and need
to calm down," she told herself, but she was wrong...

...really wrong. During lunch she went to sit with her friend,
Cherokee. She was an Aisha.
"Wow! Your fur! It's beautiful!" Cherokee exclaimed.
"Thanks Cherokee," Leekoi replied. As they were talking Leekoi
began to feel quite strange. Her stomach felt like a knot and
her head was spinning. She closed her eyes and waited for the
dizziness to pass. When it was gone she sighed a sigh of relief.
"Are you ok?" Cherokee asked."Your eyes changed color and your fur
started to glow."
"Of course I'm ok you thickheaded creep!"
Leekoi said in a mean voice not her own. She was shocked at what
she had just said. "What's going on?" she thought to herself.
Little did she know but it was just the begining...

...Later that day Leekoi began to feel weird, very weird. Her head
felt as if it were about to explode and her jaw hurt. She reached up
her paw to rub her painful head and suddenly became quite dizzy. She
leaned forward to put her head on the desk but fell to the floor.
Her teacher and friends raced to her side and gasped with horror at
the terrible sight. Cherokee was the first to speak.
"Leekoi, your head!" She exclaimed.
Leekoi growled, "Whats wrong
with it?" in the same gruff voice as before.
"Well look," Cherokee
said as she helped Leekoi from the ground and handed her sleek
Aisha compact to her friend. As she got up Leekoi noticed what
her classmates had been too afraid to mention. Her fur was horridly
ragged and stood on end. Her head was swollen beyond belief. The top
of it was all convoluted and bumpy like a brain, and her lower jaw
jutted forward with sharp fangs poking up. Leekoi roared at the
horrid sight. "Ahh! I'm a mutant!" she cried as she dropped the mirror
and ran from the class...

...Blinded by tears she ran through the halls of the school, not even
sure of where she was headed. Finally, she found herself at the door
of the girl's bathroom and she pushed her way in and slumped into a
dark corner.
"What has happened to me!?" she asked herself, choking back the second
rush of tears that was pushing its way out.
She stood up and walked to the mirror. Wild, terrified eyes stared back
at her. "This isn't me!" she yelled, her terror turning into fiery anger,
"I never wanted this!"
"Oh?" said a small raspy voice from behind her. She swung around searching
for the source of the voice. "Did you not say you 'needed a paint brush to
paint yourself with'? That your fur was 'eight seasons ago'?" Leekoi
circled around unable to find the voice.
"Who are you? How do you know what I said?!" She yelled backing into the
bathroom counter. Suddenly two red eyes appeared in the shadows and the
mysterious creature stepped into the light. Leekoi gasped in fear...

...it was the Spyder. His glowing red eyes stared back at her. "I never
wanted THIS!", she repeated in an even angrier voice than before, pointing to
herself. The Spyder replied, "Well... you said you wanted to be a
different color, and now you are." "But I don't want to be a different
color anymore! I want to be blue again, like my Mom!", and with that
she ran home weeping. The Spyder thought long and hard for the next few
hours, thinking of what he should do, and then he finally made a decision.
Leekoi snuck into the house through her bedroom window so her mother
wouldn't see her. She then said, "Why did I wish for this to happen? I should
have never wanted to change how I look..." and then fell asleep crying.
Late that night, the Spyder crawled through Leekoi's bedroom window and
once again bit her ear. Leekoi started to glow a bright blue.
The next morning Leekoi woke up to find a very nice surprise for her...

..."I'm blue again! I'm blue again! Blue!Blue!Blue!" Leekoi was so excited.
"How in Neopia's great green moon did you get the paint off?" her mother asked.
"I don't know. I looked gruesome, so I ran home from school and climbed
through the window to my room so you wouldn't see me. I woke up
and I... the Spyder."
"What Spyder?"
"I was trying to see if I had enough money for a paintbrush and a Spyder
crawled out of my bank. He must have cursed me, then changed me back again."
"I hope you've learned your lesson, young lady," Leekoi's mother said sternly.
"Oh, I have. Next time I want a paintbrush, I'll ask Dad."
