"...Why don't I help you fix the lamp?"
Izzy's eyes widened. She had not considered Taelia to be the crafting type, unlike Delina. But that just made Taelia even more impressive from the Shoyru's perspective. "Really?"
Already the Snow Faerie had opened up a cupboard and produced a bottle of Altador Glue.
"You said this...this lamp, is important to the Snowager, right? Well, I can't just do nothing to help," she said as she began applying glue to one of the largest pieces. "Do you remember how the lamp looks like?"
"Yes, of course," Izzy answered, a grin flickering on her face. She had seen many, many different Advent Calendar gifts, but the King Altador Leg Lamp was certainly one of the most...memorable. "I think that piece goes with this one."
For a while, the two of them worked silently, until the lamp was about halfway done.
"Thank you, Izzy."
"Huh? For what?"
Taelia smiled as she affixed the bulb back onto the knee of the lamp. "Thank you, for what you do for the Snowager every year."
"Oh, um, it's always my pleasure," said Izzy, assembling the shade with more Altador Glue. "I look forward to this every year, taking unclaimed Advent Calendar gifts to the Snowager, who always loses so many of his treasures while he's hibernating. It's a win-win situation, because the gifts don't go to waste, and the Snowager has new treasures. And...it was really nice, that he found something to love from what I brought him. There, the lampshade is done!"
In no time at all, the King Altador Leg Lamp was reassembled, good as new, and only a very close look would reveal the fine cracks where it had broken not too long ago. Taelia switched it on, the light filtering through the lamp shade, reflecting from the armored knee and calf of the leg.
"Oh, thank Fyora it still works!" Izzy exclaimed, breathing a sigh of relief. "I should be thanking you, because I can now take his lamp back. Well, when the blizzard stops."
"Why don't you have some more Borovan while you wait?" Taelia offered, and then muttered, more to herself, "What a truly strange lamp."
* * *
The Snowager was still sobbing when Izzy returned, clutching the lamp. In addition to his pile of treasures, he had amassed a pile of icicle tears. But at the sound of her footsteps, he stopped, reared up, and stared hard at her.
"Just like I promised," she said, hurrying to place the lamp back onto the table and plug it in again. "Good as new!"
The Snowager leaned more closely to scrutinize the lamp. Izzy wondered what would happen if he noticed the hairline cracks in the King Altador Leg Lamp that had been filled in with Altador Glue.
With his snout, he nudged Izzy's shoulder gently, and the faerie Shoyru could have sworn that she saw the corners of his mouth move up into a little smile before he curled back up with his hoard, though he continued to focus on his new lamp.
And despite standing in the Snowager's cavern, that tiny smile warmed Izzy up just like one of Taelia's cups of Borovan.
The End.
