There were few upsides to living on Terror Mountain, Izzy thought glumly as she pulled layer after layer on in anticipation of leaving her warm, cosy cottage. Truthfully, she wasn’t sure why she still lived there when she considered the pull of warmer climates in Neopia. But Izzy knew she would never leave, her role as a helper of the Advent Calendar got her through the 11 months of freezing weather and endless snow.
Finally pulling on her final layer, Izzy took a deep breath and opened her front door. Immediately, she felt the blast of icy wind and snow and recoiled before stepping out into the blizzard-like weather. She wouldn’t have usually left her home today but the Faerie Shoyru was on a mission, one that she had been entrusted with as the Advent Calendar had drawn to its close at the end of the month of Celebration. She had been waiting in anticipation of this day, the date marked neatly on her calendar with the location and time of her meeting.
“I must not be late!” She whispered determinedly, her voice lost in the wind as she pushed against the wind. Her journey to her final destination would have usually been fairly quick, a 5 minute stroll but the howling blizzard worked against her, slowing her down. Eventually, she reached the building and stared at the large plain oak door in front her. Excitement and nerves bubbled as she reached for the gold knocker, and without hesitation she knocked loudly. ...The Snowager, the Heirarch of Hoarding itself. Its long, striped body coiled around and through the spoils of its jealously guarded horde of trinkets and treasures, the sound of one dropping loose sometimes ringing through the hall.
Even though she was out of the cold, Izzy couldn't help but shudder. If she got on the Snowager's bad side, the situation outside would be like a tropical beach in comparison to what awaited her.
The Snowager raised its head with the slowness such a large creature would imply, tilting its head slightly as it studied its latest visitor. Once it seemed satisfied, it glanced down at its horde.
Nobody knew why, but whether it was a long hibernation, or simply the great beast getting caught up in the spirit of the season, the Snowager always let its guard down during the Month of Advent, letting passers-by take things from its treasure horde. As expected, the horde had shrunken considerably.
