Contest:
Advertisements are You!

What to Buy...
There are products galore in Neopia, but how are they advertised? We here at The Neopets Headquarters think it is about time that some of these products get some advertisement time. Your project for the next couple of weeks is to create an advertisement for a Neopian product. You can select any product (be is soda pop, EZ Brand Products, etc), however the advertisement should be in the style of the advertisements from the 1950s. Please do all of the work yourself. Your submission should include a picture of your advertisement, and it should tell us in the description why you decided to advertise the product you selected the way you did. We will judge entries on creativity, how well they sell the product, and their overall awesomness. :)

First Place

Ten winners receive the Random Contest avatar, 10,000 NP and an item of DOOM.

This should sell some cereal!
by bubblequartz
My goodness, this was fun! (And also tear-your-hair-out hard!) I chose the lab ray for this entry because it's "scientific" (a popular theme in the 50s) and also has kid appeal - seriously, it's a TREASURE HUNT that can turn you into a ROBOT! :P In that light, I decided to loosely copy the style of an old comic book ad, hence the halftone patterns (which I ended up making myself because I couldn't find a good filter) and the limited colors. I put it all together in a vector graphics program, then added the aged-paper colors in my favorite Photoshop substitute. :) Oh - and I decided on cereal box tops since it both plays into the kid theme and somewhat hides how exorbitant the price is. :D

Cheese Jelly!
by codswobble
Oh look, cheese jelly is not buy one get one free! How nice! This jelly is perfect for people who love the taste of cheese and the texture of jelly. Yum yum. I chose to advertise cheese jelly with this poster because how lovely does it sound! A large, enticing picture of the jelly should encourage people to take away two jellies when they next visit the shops!

Crunchy Surprise
by dummydumpty
I had to include awkward and creepy looking young Neopets in my ad, as the portrayal of children is what I remember the most about advertisement from 1950s. The petpetpet lollypops are among my favorite items in Neopia, and advertising an unhealthy product as good wasn't rare back then.

Perfume: Eau De Neo
by esburr
The fragrance of Eau De Neo, widely known as "Perfume" is highly undervalued. A simple design, yet such an iconic item, this fragrance is in the home of almost every Neopian.

Drink Time
by garfield_chubz
Aside from the drink, blue and orange represent Maraqua and the Lost Desert for the drink's selling location and fruit origin! Also doubles as a table at Kelp. The drink is aged so you can literally 'drink time'. *badumtss*

Magical Marbles of Mystery
by hiddleston
I like battling in the battledome and Magical Marbles of Mystery is a pretty cool weapon to me. Although it looks very harmless, it can freeze your enemy for one turn. It can be a toy and it can be a powerful weapon too. I played up the sense of mystery with the shadow of the marbles to give it more personality.

Not-So-Basic Dryer
by panther_puma
A lot of 50s ads featured a pretty woman, for obvious reasons. I wanted to stick to the theme... while turning the tables on it a little. Done first in acrylics and text added in Photoshop.

Fyora Day Fizz
by pro8lem
When I think 50s ads, I think smiling, well-dressed ladies; who better than the Faerie queen to be our model?

Kikoughela Drops
by seshic
Apparently adverts in the '50s were based around eerie smiles and the users being inordinately happy about the product they are using. I did my best to emulate this but it is quite difficult to get the creepy-factor right

Is Your Pet Ready for the Day?
by stratus365
After researching 1950's advertisements, I found that most of them were about drinks. And what drink is the most popular in Neopia? That's right, Neocola! When I read about this contest, the picture on the neopets homepage crossed my mind. so I referenced the picture for the head and the arms! As for how I advertised, I tried choosing minimalistic text, and handwritten font, as those to elements were popular then for ads. Then, as a final touch, I made the picture look grainy and old (Since it's from the 1950's :D )

Second Place

Fifteen lucky people have 5,000 NP, the Random Contest avatar and an item whizzing their way.

Neocola Advertisement
by amalia_x
Neocola seems to be one of the most popular drinks in Neopia! Have you given it a try yet?

The Alien Aisha Scrambler!
by amaranthium
Many 1950s advertisements have big, cheesy slogans for the product, so I created my own! Mix it up with the Alien Aisha Scrambler! I also noticed that 1950s advertisements emphasize the power of new technology and its impact on everyday life, so I tried to not only demonstrate (with bright green!) the power of the scrambler but also describe the state-of-the-art electronics of its oscilloscope screen.

The Queen of All Hairspray
by copperflies
For fabulous, flowing hair, use Fyoras Magic Hairspray! It is the Queen's wish. Long live Queen Fyora and her beautiful locks (...which you can also have for 900 NP and a few sprays)!

Get Your Day Off to a Flying Start!
by crazy_holly_ii
Start your day with a delicious cup of borovan, the favourite drink of Neopians everywhere! I chose to design this ad based on the more cartoon-y side of vintage, reminiscent of old Hoover ads.

World Domination Board Game
by glitt_
I chose to advertise this product out of my own free will and was in no way brainwashed by our future overlord, Dr. Frank Sloth. This ad may be a bit plain, but the facts alone should be enough to sell this wonderful item.

Buzzer
by grendayx5
Good afternoon here is my advertisment about the Zzzuper awesome buzzer vacuum cleaner. I chose this product because it is something that should not ever miss in the neohome of neopets, always pull Neohome products in the proof is the nanny of petpets you always have to sweep, but no more with this new super vacuum. Posdata: what the Cybunny sees on the floor is a stain. and the Bezzzt its a simulation of the ZZzzz of the bees.

Chia Pops!
by jadestone45
The delicious, cold treat you just HAVE to eat! Chia Pops have been around for decades, and the original recipe hasn't changed. This ice pop is the perfect snack after a round at the Battledome, or just an indulgence while you're spending time in your Neohome. Also comes in Magical version!

Seek Visor Advertisement
by macteazle
The Seek Visor is one of my favorite items on the site. Not only are they ultra-fashionable rainbow glasses, they also double as a defense item that can help you see clearly in the darkness! I chose AAA to endorse the product because it seemed like something he would love to own himself. Raiding the fridge for a late-night snack has never been easier!

The Amazing Pomanna Plushie
by magicofexcalibur
Remember over ten years ago when the amazing world of NeoQuest opened? Remember how you could only play at certain times of the day? How about when you beat Jahbal for the first time? Don't forget about the great Pomanna that hid in the depths of the Jungle Ruins! His grumpiness was only a facade for what turns out to be hiding secrets, and not just any secret - the secret to unlocking the door in the Techo Caves! The Pomanna Plushie, a truly rare collectible from over ten years ago, felt like the perfect product to advertise given this theme. The sense of nostalgia along with a sense of newly refreshed wonder - that is what the 1950s is all about.

GaGa Grub Ad!
by nahhnbahs_side
As soon as I saw the task for this contest, I immediately got inspired to do this! I chose Strawberries and Cream Baby Food, since I thought it would be fun to work off the brand name shown in the items image. Before drawing it, I looked at posters from the 1950's for inspiration, specifically those advertising candy, drinks and pet food. I tried my best to capture the kind of humorous and colourful style those old adverts had, as well as give the ad a catchy slogan. The most fun part of doing this was painting the actual baby food jar and the strawberry, as well as thinking of what text to put on it! I hope you enjoy my entry :D

Florange Slushie
by otaku_animax
You taste its quality!

Limited New Flavors!
by serein
I decided to advertise the Slushie Shop slushies because there is a massive abundance of flavors to choose from! Every Neopet is bound to find at least ten different flavors whom he or she will love! I chose to advertise the Tangy Tropic Slushie because it is clearly so very exotic and bound to be an exclusive treat to all Terror Mountain residents! I have a Yellow Wocky (named Shirley) modelling the Tangy Tropic Slushie on this poster because she told me it was her favorite flavor.

Strawberry Neodrops
by shroomamom
I decided to keep my poster simple as was the style, and used a colour scheme reminiscent of the 1950s.

Faerie Kitchen Stove
by toffeedatepudding
Most ads from the 50's were geared towards a female audience. I wanted to go with this trend and advertise the feminine Faerie Kitchen Stove! For its endorser, I picked the best of the best - Fyora, of course! After all, every Neopian girl looks up to Fyora, right? Well, except for Jhudora, maybe. But that's ok. I don't think she cooks. Anyway, this print ad is meant to be on the pages of magazines. So it is text-heavy, like most ads back then. I drew Fyora in a vintage fashion, and came up with a fitting tag line too. The Faerie Furniture Shop better stock up, because after my ad runs, I am sure ladies from as far as Kreludor will be flocking to buy the Faerie Kitchen Stove for their Neohome!

Third Place

Lastly there were 59 runners-up who will each receive 2,000 NP and the Random Contest avatar.
