Hot vs Cold

Seasons change...
Which is why we think it would be great fun for you to create your own Neopets themed thermometer! The theme for your thermometer will be Hot or cold weather Neopets characters! That is right; you will now be able to find out the temperature with the help of your fellow Neopians. :) (Please be aware that you can make thermometers from a water and rubbing alcohol combination.) Do all of the work yourself. Your submission should include a picture of your thermometer, and it should tell us what you made it from and how you made it in the description. We will judge entries on creativity, usefulness, and their overall awesomness. :)

Christmas Bruce thermometer

I made this thermometer using alcohol, food coloring, a bottle sealed with a plastic straw and decorated it with EVA. I was inspired in bruces of Terror Mountain.


Candychan Thermometer

What brings to mind winter better than the Candychan? This little fellow is busy slurping his slushie; the hotter the temperature, the more slushie he slurps up his straw! I would love to describe how I made him, but I'm having trouble with the description having words over 25 characters in length?


Magma & Ice Korbat Thermometer

By gather simple household items, I added equal parts water and rubbing alcohol into a bottle, adding water coloring for show. Putting a straw into the mixture to gauge temperature, and closing the top of the bottle with playdoh. I then drew and decorated the bottle. Observing the straw with pictures of the thermometer in sunlight and shade, concludes that the project was a success!

Snow for a Snow Ixi... Then Heat?

I made a thermometer featuring my Snow Ixi, Daulon. He is chill when it's cold, and melting when it's hot. I used purple food coloring, water, rubbing alcohol, a jelly jar, plastic wrap, a straw, my drawings of Daulon, and tape. I tapped the "chill" picture of Daulon to the bottom of the straw, placing him in the jar with the solution. While the melting Daulon was tapped outside, where he would most definitely melt (we wouldn't want melted snow and whatever else Daulon is made up of in the thermometer jar, would we?)

Hot vs. Cold Petpets

I decided to theme my thermometer hot and cold petpets! The bottom has (from left to right) a polarchuck, snowbunny, feepit, and fir. The top (from left to right) has a epuni, hoggir, marlock, and magmut. I made them by first sketching it up, outlining in pen, then coloring in with colored pencils. Finally, I cut and out and stuck it in the most pleasing manner possible to a plastic water bottle.

For my thermometer I used: Rubbing alcohol, tap water, food colouring, ribbon, a Sharpie marker, paper, pencil crayons, a straw, and modeling clay


Senator Barca as a thermometer!

I was looking though the Neopedia to get an idea. I came across Senator Barca. I always did love her, and thought "Why Not!" She lives and works in Sakhmet. We would assume it's hot there. So Barca was a perfect Hot Neopian Character! I went in search for things too make this crazy thermometer! I combined some flour (I used wheat to give it that sandy/desert texture), water, cream of tartar, oil, and salt. It looked like a hotcake mix. So I popped in into the microwave. A minute or so passed, I had a nice play-doh to work with. I took my water bottle, and put a mixture of equal parts of water and rubbing alcohol. I added in some food coloring. I than stuck my plastic tube into the bottom. However.. it kept falling and touching the bottom. So I took a little cup and made it into a cap. It held great :) I than took my homemade play-doh and made a small head for (and a stable area) Barca! I later used some of the doh for the feet! I drew out her face, and painted it. (This took me a good 4 times. I gave up and went with the last one. Ta-dah? ) I then cut it out. I had some magnetic strips and I put it on the drawing and the play-doh head. It kinda worked. However, it was loose. So I hot glued it :D I had some white cloth (from a really worn out pillow case) and I made Barca head garnet with it. I painted gold stripes on it, to give it a princess feel. My final touch, was painting her shoes brown and gold! All in all, it turned out great. It was hard at some points, but really fun! I was super happy when my thermometer worked. It was really hot in my house, so it went up the gauge! ((As the alcohol-water mixture expands it moves up through the straw. If the bottle were to get very hot, the liquid would have come through the top of the straw.)) Thank you for taking the time to read this! There was so many steps to this, but it all paid off in the end! :)
