Card of the Day

Every day (well, most of them) we will release a new Card of the Day. Keep checking back, as you never know what interesting strategies and combos you will find!

64. Back from the Grave

Hints and Tips

You all thought Lord Darigan was dead, didn't you. Nah, it'll take more than a magical exploding orb to get rid of him! Back from the Grave is a Dark-aligned Something Has Happened that should have a place in all dark villain decks.

Villains can really turn the tide of a game. They sit in an arena and block your opponent from drawing or banking till they are defeated. They are a good way of forcing your opponent to move into arenas that he or she may not be competent in. Drop Eliv Thade, Blugthak or The Darkest Faerie into their respective arenas early on and you can be assured that your opponent will flee from them in terror! A good strategy is to choose a villain who has a high-statistic in an arena that none of your Neopets or Experienced Neopets are good in. If you are playing with Grarrl Gladiator, chances are that you won't be putting any high-strength villains in your deck, there would be no point.

Sometimes your opponent will merely sit in the arena and hope to roll a 6, which would be an automatic victory. This is a very bad strategy in general, and will only lead to wasted opportunities to win contests elsewhere. It is advantageous to put your opponent in a position where they have nothing else to do but to try and roll a 6 against a villain.

The strategy of blocking your opponent with villains, however, breaks down when they pull out a Malevolent Sentient Poogle Plushie or Jerdana's Orb. There are many heroes that have huge bonuses against villains too, such as Siyana of Talador or Jerdana. That is why you need a backup plan - Back from the Grave. There is nothing more satisfying than putting that villain right back into play after your opponent has defeated it!

Another interesting fact about this card is that you can choose a villain from your opponent's discard pile. This simply gives you more choices on which villain to select.

Lastly, there are advantages to putting Villains in your deck simply for you to defeat. Take The Bat-Thing for instance. An early victory against him will allow you to search your deck for some uber-powerful cards. Eliv Thade is also great villain, and if you are playing Dark and Air you should add three copies of him to your deck. Not only can he block off the intelligence arena with style, if you pull him out and you don't particularly want to use him for that purpose simply stick him in Agility and defeat him with ease. You get to untap and draw for defeating him, so he is never a wasted card.
