Neopets TCG

Card of the Day

Every day (well, most of them) we will release a new Card of the Day. Keep checking back, as you never know what interesting strategies and combos you will find!

38. SLOTH SURPRISE

Hints and Tips

The first (proper) Card of the Day in the Return of Dr. Sloth set is none other than Sloth Surprise. A dish best served cold, and doesn't it look delicious? When he first arrived in Neopia he ordered his chefs to create a menu item in his image, and they were too terrified to say no. After they were defeated, the Grundo Chef Gargarox just kept making it!

Sloth Surprise is an item, and a very good one to boot. Although it is only worth 2 points on a successful bank, it has a rather exciting (if a bit swingy) effect if you play it in a contest. Playing it will force the loser of the contest to return an item in their bank to their hand. If you are the dominant force in an arena this card will not only give you a +2 bonus to your roll, it can hit your opponent where it hurts!

There is not that much bank destruction in the first two sets of the Neopets TCG. The Kacheek Thief is good, but frankly his ability is a bit hard to pull off. The power of Sludging Ray is hard to avoid, but the two card cost for playing it means it is only really going to be handy in decks that allow you to do a lot of drawing. Money Tree Ghosts has a similar effect, however you can only do it when your opponent is winning the game. Sloth Surprise not only has none of these drawbacks, its Air too. No longer do you have to have a fire Neopet in play to take items out of your opponent's bank!

Sloth Surprise is a nice addition to any Air deck, but there are a couple of cards that work exceedingly well with it. Take Kauvara's Potion for instance... although it is Earth it effectively doubles the amount of 'Surprises' that you can pack into your deck! An Aisha Myriad can not only increase your chances of getting a Sloth Surprise into play, it will hopefully give you the boost you need to win the contest. Also, why not try Earth Faerie Leaves on your Neopet, allowing you to re-run the fun on every turn.

Chances are, however, if you are forcing your opponent to remove an item from his bank every turn that he or she is going to flee the arena that they are losing in and go elsewhere, leaving you unopposed! Clever use of villains will make sure that they have nowhere to run.

In closing, Sloth Surprise is a fantastic card that is even better if played in the right combos. Just don't use it too often, you may run out of people who want to play with you :)

On Monday we will be featuring the JubJub Engineer!
