90. BATTLE OF WITS

Hints and Tips

Poor Jessica... it seems that learning magic is so competitive these days :( Battle of Wits is the first Something Has Happened card that we have featured from the Maraqua set, and it's a pretty good one too!

There are many cards in the game that let you bank cards without having to win a contest. Put on Display for instance, or Cleansing Flames. There haven't been may other Air cards that allow you to do this, however. Battle of Wits is a great addition to an Air deck that is seeking an alternative winning strategy.

To bank a card using Battle of Wits, you simply have to tap an Air Neopet and then have more points (through Items and Equipment) in your hand than your opponent. You can bank any card, even a four or five-pointer, so this can give you a great advantage. Obviously, if you bank a card then you have less points in your hand for the next time you play Battle of Wits, but there are ways around this :)

The good thing about not having to win a contest to bank cards is that you can concentrate less on buffing your Neopets with Equipment and Petpets, and think more defensively. Pick one Arena, and go all out in that arena, and simply defend in the others with Villains and good, solid Experienced Neopets that get a defensive bonus. Use cards like The Darkest Faerie to scare your opponent into not attacking you, or try slowing the game down with a Whirlpool or Volcanic Eruption. The longer you can stop your opponent winning contests, the better - because you don't have to win as many as they do!

If your opponent has too many cards in his or her hand, then you can always use cards such as Jhudora's Evil Eye to even things out a little.
