Card of the Day

Every day (well, most of them) we will release a new Card of the Day. Keep checking back, as you never know what interesting strategies and combos you will find!

36. DARIGAN GARDENS

Hints and Tips

This is the first Location card that we have featured in our Card of the Day (now we know the rules its easier to write about them :) Darigan Gardens is great in a fire deck. It's a location that can be played in any arena, as opposed to being limited to a specific one.

Providing you meet the criteria (in this case having a Fire Neopet in play), you may play a Location into an arena in the main phase of your turn (when you aren't in the middle of a challenge). It simply sits there and modifies the behaviour of the arena. Various location effects range from changing stats, drawing cards, and providing a certain bonus when you win a contest. Check out Armoury of Kass, Meridell Castle and Oubliette too!

The ability of Darigan Gardens is to let you bank or draw when you win a contest that you didn't start, ie. when your opponent starts a contest against you. Doubling your advantage in a arena is powerful, but don't expect your opponent to stand for it for long!

So why would I put this in my deck? Well, the main reason is to scare your opponent away into another arena. You should be only playing Darigan Gardens in an arena that you have total dominance in. Let's say for instance that you have a Grarrl Gladiator in Strength. This guy is going to win at least a third of all his contests anyway, so why not maximise the effect and bank or draw on your opponent's turn too! Chances are that your opponent is going to flee at the first sight of this card, but with careful use of Villains you can limit the number of places they can hide.

However, a word of warning. Darigan Gardens effectively doubles the winning player's advantage in an arena. Make sure you are going to be the winner, because if your opponent gains the highest stat you are going to have to leave with your tail between your legs.

Playing a Location card will cancel out any existing Locations in that arena. Using Darigan Gardens, which can be played in any arena, is a great way to stop your opponent setting up location-based combos. Think of it as an instant location counterspell!
